in Credit cards
HI all,
I have never been able to get a credit card and have had the same bank account for over 13yrs.
I have never been in a household in my adult life for longer than 2yrs, so a stable background i do not come from.
Me and the fiancee were talkin the other day and came across a question noone we know knows the aswer to. I've been reading on the interweb for some time now about how to repair my credit file and haven't seent he question been asked or answered anywhere.
The question is...
Example:
Jane has excellent credit. John has zero. Jane has credit cards all over the place, always pays ontime, and has an excellent creit rating. John has nothing.
If jane where to ask one of the credit card companies to give john a card from one of her accounts, as a spouse, would this increase his credit rating? or degrade janes?
Names are fictitous.
Fiancee was wondering this the other day. If she applied for a card for me from one of her creditors, would that increas my rating? The credit card account would be hers but i'd be paying from my bank account.
Do you get what i mean??
ANy help appreciated.

The primary cardholder has sole responsibility for the debt.
The secondary cardholder can damage the primary cardholders credit rating (by overspending for example), but can't improve their own because the account conduct is reported to the primary cardholders credit file only.
EDIT: Won't your own bank (of 13 years standing) even consider you for a credit card?0 -
So it would be pointless in me gettin a card?
Is there any other way for me to improve my rating other than waiting for yrs and paying things off on time? See the problem with that is, i don't have anything in my name at all, so paying things off ontime isn't in the equation.
I can't start to pay things off on time as i can't get any type of credit at all.
I've looked on my credit file and found only 1 bad point on it. That was last xmas. I moved to USA for 3 months. when i got back i started to sort out my finaces, first thing being my credit file.
During my time in usa, my car back home had run out of tax. Whoever deals with car tax couldn't get the money off me for not declaring my car SORN so fined me £100, as i couldn't pay this, they took me to court and they gave me a CCJ. At no point did i have any dealings be it in letter or phone call from anyone in regards to this matter. When i found out that i had the ccj i was past the point where i could pay it off and clear it from my file.
It has been paid but will stay on for 6yrs?!
This is the only bad point on my credit file.
So are there any other ways to improve my score? Applying for things to just be turned down and degrade my file isnt an option.

Edit: I tried them, but i have been overdrawn with them in the past and they won't give me a cc.0

they took me to court and they gave me a CCJi have been overdrawn with them in the past and they won't give me a cc.
Perhaps someone else could comment on whether the likes of Vanquis/Aqua/Barclaycard Initial/Capital One Credit Builder would consider someone with a CCJ?0 -
Is there anyway of getting rid of the ccj as i had no idea i was getting it? Not being in the country or gettin any mail on the subject.
See i'm wanting to get a mortgage with the missus in the new yr and with me not having any credit, we're thinking we may not be able to get a joint mortgage.
Any comments on this anyone?

It is possible to overurn a CCJ on the grounds that you did not receive the summons.
I'm not sure however whether the fact you have now paid it will affect the position. I would suggest you phone nationaldebtline and ask their advice.
Unless or until you can get rid of the CCJ, I would suggest you do not get any joint accounts/loans/mortgages aS these will set up a financial link between you and your OH and will adversely affect their credit rating (and do nothing to improve yours).0 -
OK..
so i've been looking around and calling people.. and this is what i've come up with:
1: Call the court that issued the ccj.
2: Get the claim number and write a letter to the issuing court enclosing form N244 http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/courtfinder/forms/n244_0400.pdf (PDF format.)
3: Enclose a processing fee of £65 with above letter.
4: Await a reply.
The above does no guarantee the ccj will be set aside.
Thanks for ur help guys.
tony.
ps: i just have to find out about getting a joint mortgage now..
any links or ideas?
