I use tokens, you can buy multiples of them on ebay so they are cheap (I don't carry much cash around with me). Never had a problem with them.
Except that in my Asda, the mechanism seems to include a magnet and somehow won't release these tokens unless you pull them out with pliers lol. So that's the only shop where I run any risk of losing my pound coin! Its also a shop I don't go into much.0 -
The mechanism gets worn and the coin can be pulled out with a pair of pliers.
Correct.
I found my £1 had vanished, once, and was a little puzzled.
A few weeks later, because I was paying particular attention to putting the coin in carefully, I noticed it was very loose and could just be pulled out.
I haven't had one that could be pulled out by hand, since, but I'm sure that several could be pulled out with pliers. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
If you forget to take your pliers, Aldi sell them for £2.49 (£1.49 after discount)...0

I use a trolley token, costs around 10p and I am sure to place a keyring to the token hole to take it back out.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Presumably, all you would need to do is get a chain cutter, cut off the chain with the insertion blade from another trolley then use this to release the coin from any other trolley.
Not thought about that before but rather simple and this is probably going to turn out to be a common scam once other scumbags cotton on to the idea!0 -

only a one time use though as it gets stuck in the mechanism and there is more to hold it in than there is for the coin0 -

I've never had a coin go in Aldi but it happened six or seven times in a few months in one of our local Tescos, we've stared triple checking how secure the coin/token is. A few times we've noticed the coin just fall out with nobody using any pliers/force or even touching it at all. If you notice when still in the shop they have always given the £1 back and taken the trolley out of use.0

I have one of these on my keyring. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Infinite-Trolley-Coin-Master-Key/dp/B00EXUSQEK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442299093&sr=8-1&keywords=infinite+trolley+key. Come in pairs so Dad has the other one. Whenever customers try to give me a pound, they are puzzled as to why there is no coin or token in the trolley.
I don't tell them either. One customer I said it was magic! He believed me.:D:rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
thank you for all the replies and skits:D trust me im not a trolley abandoner but i do leave it out of peoples way rather than block an isle as i read how to solve the cuban missile crisis on the back of a tin of corned beef, ive come to the conclusion aldi trolleys are made of chocolate and half a tub of lard and so the coins probably are falling out,on my next trip though im posting sentries to see if it is a pound stealer in relation to those pound substitute thingies ive always paid a pound for them in the charity shops so obviously im too generous, like the idea of the euro though im going to try and remember that one
cheers......discusion still open of course0
