Hi all,
My mother in law has a nottingham building society account where her pension and wages (she still works at almost 70) and she has 3 ISA accounts with them too. She had a letter advising her of changes to the amount of compensation her accounts are covered for. From January next year it will be changing to 75k.
She is worrying now as she has more than that in these combined accounts.
She doesn't have the internet (and sometimes asks us what this internet thing is!!), is deaf so cannot use the phone and has no idea what bank cards do etc etc. She has always had a nottingham building society account and has always had their pass books.
She wants an account elsewhere now to transfer some of her money to so she'll still be covered by the FSCS but she still wants a passbook account!
Anyone know of anywhere that still does a pass book account? Bank or building society?
HELP!!
Thanks all,
Mark

Best place to try for passbook accounts are Building Societies. Nationwide may be good,or any of the other smaller ones.
Your mum may have to split her savings between more than one institution but she can be assured that up to £75K in each institution will be safe.0 -
I echo the building society post.
Failing that, try Santander for a savings account. My cousin has a passbook with them (although I'm not sure when she got it.) It might be a case of stating no internet access, don't like/understand cards to get a book as a special request.0 -
Leeds BS and Yorkshire BS both have instant access passbook accounts and appear to have branches in the Nottingham area.0

Just like to add, some institutions share the £75K protection:

agree with much of the above.
whichever Building Societies have branches which are convenient to her are worth looking at...and compare their rates. it might be that she'd be wise to move the bulk away from Nottingham:think:
the reason Santander accounts sometimes have passbooks is because Santander UK has it's roots in Abbey National Building Society.0 -
Nationwide and Yorkshire BS both do passbook accounts. There is a Yorkshire BS on Milton Street near John Lewis and a Nationwide on Clumber St. If your MIL is outside Nottm. there's a Nationwide in Beeston and a Yorkshire in Hucknall. Neither have financial links for compensation with the Nottm BS.
I've a feeling my Yorkshire ISA may have a passbook as well but not certain.0
