Most banks and Building Societies have accounts that can either be operated in branch as well as online/telephone, and some, particularly BS, will have accounts that are only operated by passbook. My mum has several accounts at the Coventry as there's a branch local to her, and she has a passbook for most if not all of those.

For the majority of accounts nobody forces you to register for only banking and use it. You can keep visiting a branch instead to improve your health.0 -
I am with you here.
Much preferred the pass book they used to give you with savings accounts and do not trust the new way of doing things.
We do not have any form of online banking, we know of so many people who have had problems.
I also refuse to have a card with any of my bank accounts, I have no use for one and for me it is one less thing to go wrong.
Only the other day my son's girlfriend had transactions made with her debit card fraudulently. The bank tried to tell her that some had got through without them stopping them, it was only when my son threatened to close all their accounts with them that they agreed to refund them.
Saffron BS still use pass books but interest rates are not good, I would also be interested to know of anywhere else that does.0 -
Yes, you can go into Halifax (and Santander) and open a passbook account in branch, it is not registered with internet banking but can be. Virgin Money seem to offer them as well.
I have a passbook account that is 25 years old and its impossible (due to the account number - does not follow standard) to register it online.
Im sure the bank could do it but only in person at a branch, not even the telephone team can access it, only in branch is it available. If I call them they cannot find it. I don't save a lot of money in it for obvious reasons.
I am not a particular fan of online banking, I prefer to do everything in person, but even the bank staff get the hump if you request things that can be done online now, every time they remind me you can do this online banking service, or using a machine.
You have to move with the times, I like to register my accounts at my local branch and visit when I need to, but I also go online to do stuff. Bank branches are being kept open by a generation, once they are "gone" more branches will reduce hours and close even faster. We will end up with just machines, Barclays are already doing it to their branches, and they are the leaders most of the time. Saying that, local branches around here have ques out of the door at lunch time.0 -
Yorkshire BS has relativly competitive passbook accounts like their Triple Access Saver (1.2% AER) - It seems available via their other brands like Chelsea and Barnsley, if they are closer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Halifax dont have any passbook account any more they are all card based and fixed accounts.
I believe that building societies are the only place that are still offering passbook based accounts now although you may find the interest is quite low for the privilege of going to the branch and using the passbook printers...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Santander told me you could not have passbooks anymore.0 -
Some building societies still insist on passbooks for some of their accounts. KRBS, Leeds, Newbury, and even Nationwide do them. Passbook accounts will naturally become museum pieces over the next decade or two.0

Their website says different. The Instant Saver account comes with either a card or a passbook:
