Somebody set up a Three contract in my name

Options
Got 2 letters from Three today, addressed to myself. Which is odd, since I only have one phone contract with them and they rarely send letters

Opened up both letters and it had the introductory "Welcome to Three" stuff, thought there was an error of some sort. Then I realised it was a new contract, someone set up in MY name and address. Not one, the cheeky sod opted for a Three Internet dongle too!

Oddly enough, overleaf is the Direct Debit details, and next to "Bank Name", "Account Number", "Sort Code" there's no information, it's blank. Now I don't have my old Three Direct Debit paperwork, but surely this info is usually filled in with the corresponding info, from which they would take the DD payments? If it's blank, does that mean a contract was granted by Three without even a proper bank account?

The contract was taken out on the 8th of September. What is my best course of action here? I've heard horror stories about these sorts of crimes, how the scammer doesn't pay the bills and the phone company send bailiffs around to the address, as the name/address match, etc etc.

Help, guys?

Perhaps you should contact and inform Three of this situation as soon as possible?

Oh I definitely will (tomorrow morning), but knowing how inept 3 customer service is, and reading about horror stories on the internet about people in similar situations being told by 3 there's nothing that can be done, I just want to arm myself with the most knowledge and prepare for everything they might try and throw at me, considering the burden of proof is on me

While you delay in informing Three you will be responsible for all the over-tariff usage on these accounts until you manage /or not to rectify this.

Don't wait for scammers to pay the bills:D phone 3 ASAP and cancel it. They will have procedures for fraud
