any DAB radios mains powered not transformer plug

Hi folks
anyone know of a DAB radio that is mains powered, but not using the transformer plug,
got 2 DAB radios and the transformer plugs/wires coming out of them always break, been using a transformer multi plug for last few months on the radio in the house but that has packed in this morning
so I'm looking for mains powered with the transformers inside the radio, like old radios used to be
thanks

  • Transformers are hardly ever used these day, the power adapters are switch mode electronics and will fit in a plug top type enclosure. The circuitry is high voltage and would not normally fitted inside a radio due to safety and interference issues. Try and find one that used a standard 5v USB power adapter as these are easily and cheaply available.

  • I got a mains powered DAB radio from Tesco.

    It's the Tesco DAB907Q.

Don't know if it's still available, as I've had it a while.

It's this one, with a different badge.

I have a Roberts Revival and before they repeatedly broke (and thanks to Amazon and John Lewis for being so easy to get a refund from each of the 4 times this happened) I went through several different Pure DAB radios.

Each worked via the mains, the only variation I can see is the obvious space on the Roberts Revival for a battery pack should you wish to take it on-the-move. I have not yet seen a DAB radio with a transformer plug and I've been through and seen many in the past 10 years.

If you have had Pure Dab radios haven't you have had plugs like this....

had the cables breaks where they come out of the top of the plug, had a multi-voltage plug just stop working due to moving it around the house when working in differenet rooms, maybe I'm heavy handed

I don't like wall-warts, regardless of whether they're transformers or switched mode; the only ones which aren't bigger than a normal plug are the iPhone ones, but they are relatively low powered (you need a larger one for an iPad).

And, like the OP says, the low voltage wires which come out of them are more fragile than a mains cable.

As for the safety of having the PSU inside the unit, I've got a BB router which has a fig.8 mains plug on it, and it seems fine.

Why not go for something like the Pure Evoke Flow? It's mains powered but has a rechargeable battery. Leave the plug alone and use the battery when you move it from room to room.

I use the Evoke Flow as an example simply because I have one and do the the above but there must be plenty of models available that are the same. I've had it years and never had any problems with the plug.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
  • I've a John Lewis own brand one, it comes with a small USB plug similar to an iPhone one and connects to the radio with a mini USB. Travelling I can charge it from my Samsung phone charger.
