Would winning £35m lottery make you happy?
Two weeks ago, a woman in Scotland won £35 million on the Euro lottery; when asked if this would make her happy, she said “no it’d make me more secure.” Which of the following is the nearest to your view?
A. It’d make my life easy, but you can still have problems 44% (3497 votes)
B. It’d fulfil all my dreams, of course I’d be happy 20% (1601 votes)
C. It’d make me more secure, but it doesn’t change much 8% (598 votes)
D. It’s just one less thing to worry about, life goes on 8% (611 votes)
E. It’d be champagne and cocktails forever, fantastic! 6% (512 votes)
F. I wouldn’t want that much cash, I’d give most of it away 14% (1122 votes)
This poll has now ended, but you can still discuss below.

Shame you can't pick more than one option.
Yes life would be easy, it would fulfil my dreams and make me happy, it would also make me more secury, its also one less thing to worry about, it would also be champagne and cocktails forever,
but of course problems would happen in life!?! deaths, break ups, relationship issues etc.. money only effects one part of life? The financial part funny enough.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

It would make me very happy. I would be able to do things I have always wanted and buy a nice house.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

It would make me feel so much secure, with house prices, etc. I'd give MoneySavingExpert.com £1,000,000!
Give a bit away to others.
Buy friends gifts ... expensive gifts.
Holiday more often – should I say HOLIDAY full stop.
Pay friends' University bills.
Buy girlfriend new car, with insurance, tax, fuel for life.
Help good people who get into debt out of it.
Then ...
I would attempt to live off the interest, invest, and save."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

I don't think I'd know what to do with all that money! I think I'd give up work, buy a nice house, maybes a holiday home abroad too, a new car and maybe have a luxury holiday. I'd keep enough to keep us comfortable so that we would never have to worry about money, put some by for DS's future, then give some to friends and the rest to charity.
£35m may stop you having financial worries, but people still have family/relationship/health/other issues regardless of how much money they have. I don't think money alone would make me happy....'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
Of course it would make me happy. I love my family and the money would allow us to enjoy our lives in comfort. But the realy beauty of winning such a large sum is that you have enough to spread around your extended family and friends. Life wouldn't be any fun if your loved ones couldn't keep up with you. That's why I wouldn't want a small lottery win, as there might not be enough to go around and that would cause resentment and misery. Of course money is not the be-all and end-all but it removes the depression and tension that lack-of-it can cause. Life is so short we need to be happy, don't we?0

I would give quite a lot away to family, friends and charities, make sure my son was set up in a house, buy us a small but nice home on the Gower, buy my husband the biggest blackest motorbike in the world and a shiny new boat, also get him a dog, then live off the interest and travel.
I would be happy, yes, but money doesn't actually make you happy, it just makes unhappiness much more comfortable. If you have problems money doesn't automatically make them go away.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I agree with the winners comments, winning £35m wouldn't make me happy for sure but it would make me secure.
£35m is a HUGE amount of money and suddenly having that much money would totally change every aspect of your life.
Would you carry on with your MSE lifestyle, collecting money off vouchers and watching the pennies?
Would you carry on working? Would it not just become totally weird?
Would your kids carry on going on to the same school? Or would there be problems caused by the publicity? Or would you use the money to make sure your kids got an amazing education that only money can be guaranteed to get?
Would you worry about how it would change your personal relationships? Would new friends be on the scene for the right reasons? What would old friends coming out of the woodwork be wanting?
Would you keep living in the same place? You certainly wouldn't need to and could get something an awful lot better.
So I think winning that much money would be a double edged sword really and personally I would feel awkward having that much money and would be inclined to give a lot of it away. I've got 20 plus cousins and only a small number of very close friends so that would take care of £30m leaving me £5m which would be quite plenty.
I would buy an amazing house for £1m plus, and then probably invest the rest.0 -
it probably would have ino mpact on my life as i suffer with depression and the trouble with depression is nothing seems to make it better but time.
The only thing that would be interesting would be to see how many people suddently become interested in me seeing as they have all been to busy since ive been ill.
Maybe once i am better it would be nice but i would imagine there would be a lot of problems that come with itThe average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
because the average man can see better than he can think.
Many people's view of the world is down to their experience, perception and what they have been conditioned to,this isnt any old MSE reply this is a important and experienced MSE reply :rotfl:0 -
Hardly a dilemma really is it? Let's face it, if you are poor, you find it very difficult to change the things which would help make life easier. If you are rich, you can hardly complain that you have too much money can you? You can always get rid of it.
I can't sympathise with lottery winners who say their win ruined their marriage, how bad must a marriage be for loads of cash to ruin it?0 -
There will still be some problems. But it will make me happy.
Would still continue to work (although the nature may change). But it would remove the worry about finances - forever if you plan it properly.0
