Flightright NWNF

My flight with AA was delayed for over 4 hours so I sent a flight compensation letter on the 10/08/15 explaining that I was entitled to compensation. I received an automated reply saying they would get back to me but as I never heard anything else I on the 18/08/15 I went onto a NWNF company site and they took my case. I received an email on the 2/09/15 explaining that they hadn't heard anything from AA yet and they would give them an additional 3 weeks for a response. AA have now sent an email to me on the 9/09/15 thanking me for contacting their customer relations about my flight compensation letter and offering me compensation. When I explained to the NWNF companny they said that i have to send my relevant information to AA and when I receive payment they will send an invoice and i have to pay them for their services. I just don't understand what services they have provided for me as i thought these companies sorted everything out for you.
