  • Coverage checker says I should get 4G. However last night download was 0.09 Mbps and just now 0.2.

EE is the Ferrari of networks in my use, my contract is on EE, and it's the phone I use everyday.

If I don't get 30Mbps download I would presume there must be a network fault as it's always quicker than that.

It's also the biggest 3G/4G network in the country.

    Edit to add:

Here's a recent speedtest I ran on my EE phone:

    Now that is impressive.

  • Well thanks to this thread I've been trying certain PAYG SIMS to check coverage. EE is very good outside here and some coverage indoors but some dead spots meaning I'd be worried about missing calls when at home. Great elsewhere.
So I'm asking any EE phone users out there, how good is EE's wifi calling? I'd be prepared to take out a contract ( I gather unavailable for PAYG) if wifi calling works for incoming calls as well as outgoing. Is it reliable? I have a phone that is apparently compatible.
  • Is your phone from EE? I thought, to use EE wifi calling, that you had to have an EE supplied phone with their "special" firmware on it?
  • No, it's not from EE but is an iphone 5s which I understand is ok.

I've had EE wifi calling now for a good couple of months and it very good. I've not tried it on the underground system, which for me would be a major advantage...

I've had it on iPhone 6 and i am a SIM only customer, so not sure if it works with other iPhones. Thought it was only the 6 and 6 plus. I could be wrong though...

in there I was looking for the best value, mainly data supplier.
depending on your priorities as for speed vs value, but in my practical experience GfGf is decent (not the best) value for money, but 3g data speeds are 2g worth, 4g might be different.
else, if you don't mind spending money (or aka rip-off) EE speeds proven to be the best. (not reception/reliability for poor areas).
testing different cards - networks at the spot of most where used- the only reliable way to end up sure what's best for you.

I think you are correct. It is Windows and Android that need the EE specific firmware to work.

Definitely correct, any iPhone compatible with the feature will work, no matter the supplier.

  • Just as an aside,I noticed that the ookla speed test uses up a lot of data when I've been testing various points.
