Thanks LilElvis, but I'm puzzled as to why they haven't allowed me to actually apply, in that case :( They said they would contact me in 14 weeks!

Perhaps the scheme is being rolled out gradually and it depends where you live/which tax office you deal with.

ETA Ah, I wonder whether atm it's only open to people in receipt of Tax Credits and the rest of us have to wait a little longer.

Thanks OP for bringing this up, I applied successfully. Ivyleaf, we don't get tax credits, so that's not your answer.

This happened with a family member. The scheme was rolled out to everyone at the same time yet the HMRC did not email the forms as they said they would after registering an interest. Chase them and apply via telephone. That was a lot easier than the form which was a nightmare if your information didn't fit exactly.

Thanks Corelli. I suppose we'll have to wait and see if they do contact us after 14 weeks! and if not, I'll try ringing them.
  • I did this in May and passed over to my hubby. the online form wouldnt work for me, just call the main HMRC number 0300 200 3300
they asked for my name, NI number, hubbys name and his NI number and they did it there and then.

I s the problem that it's a non-interest paying bank account? Mine would only work with my savings account not my current account.

HMRC originally asked people to register an interest before the new tax came in in April ,and they seem to have continued with this until recently. But you can now apply directly online without having to register and waiting for an invite, so it might be worth giving it another go

There's a long running thread on the subject here - if you check out the most recent posts you'll see people are maanging to get throguh the entire process in a few minutes. And post 112 aslo gives a phone number that you can call if you are having any problems with the ID verification process (P60 figure or bank accout receiving a benefit)

Thanks everyone. I've now received a link inviting me to apply, so will give that a try presently and see if it works, though from what others have said I expect I'll end up ringing them :)

ETA I've just completed it with no problem, that was a bit of a surprise!
