I haven't heard from them yet - they will probably ring today, but I'm taking BB's advice and not rushing into anything, so if it takes them a while to come back to me, I can be thinking about what I want to do, and looking at alternatives in the meantime.

I've got the application form for the job I spotted, and it's term time, which would be great, but 30 hours a week, so Natasha would have to go to nursery every day, which ideally I didn't want. But I will get the app filled in and look into nurseries near here, and if nothing else it will be some application form practice! :)

Hiya Mrs S. Go on, give them a ring. I must say that I wouldnt if I was in your shoes. Was telling OH about you yesterday with Ryan, 2 kids, work, insomnia and everything else going on in your life at the moment and how you seem to be eternally on this website. I said that I could picture you breast feeding the baby in one hand, expressing with the other, hoovering with your left foot, recording DVDs with your right foot, changing channels with your nose, typing with your tongue and using some other orrifice to grip a pen to apply for another job. Top top lady
    Awww, thanks!

Just feel I should maybe point out, in case anyone thinks I am just sat here all day with the house and the kids going to pot around me :o, although I leave the computer signed in (so my green light will be on most of the time), I am usually running round doing housework, and playing with the kids in between posts (and I only post about 12 times a day, even though it might seem like more!). They're not neglected.....honest.....:rotfl:

The image of me breastfeeding and typing at the same time though is pretty close to the truth!! ;)

As a thought, mortgage approvals are down to 73k this month; and the housing market isn't exactly booming - it's easier to disuade people from coming back after maternity leave than have to reorganise departments or make people redundant. It may be worth going back short term if any shake ups afoot or negotiating a mutually beneficial offer if they are looking to change staffing levels. The public sector seems to be booming and flexi-time is common there.

You know, at the back of my mind I had been wondering about that BB - but no sign of any shake-ups in our department unfortunately.

Actually thinking about this at some point this should go into written form; I'd get my request for flexibility in writing stating why it's a good proposal, e.g. willing to work 100% anti-soical shifts, why can't do 10 hr day - breastfeeding etc, other people not working same shift as manager, how it could work - dual management line, proxy-manager etc; and get them to put their counter offer in writing justifying the reasons. When you sign a job contract it's just that all on paper so can read through, not cosy little chats and if somehting is effectively ending a job contract as long as done nicely and politely (rahter than sounding like trying to sue) it shoud be on the same above board professional level. I don't negotiate and agree contract terms or hours on the phone happening to phone up someone while they are on the loo or breastfeeding and this is essentialy a contract negotiation. If they do it in writing you know they will have double checked and it will all just be less personal and more professional. Still sounds really daft insisting on such funny hours for mortgage underwriting. CCCS has a big Leeds office IA mentioned - all just caluclating interest rates.

Well as IA found out - it can be easier to dissuade someone not around to not come back than address the issue - and it's cheap...

I would love to work for the CCCS - the difficulty is that I need to either

    a) work term-time only,
    b) work round Stu's shifts, or
    c) find specialist school holiday care for Ryan

The first two pretty much preclude me from getting a job with 'normal' hours, or rotating shifts. The third one is a possibility, and we will ask about that on Monday when we speak to CAMHS, but I've a feeling, from talking to other people who live in this area, that there are very few facilities available.

I know I should be scared by all of this (me and Stu both potentially out of work), but I'm not.....yet.....

Remember it's always the most articulate, clued-up parents who get access to the services; so althought there may be only 20% coverage it's about getting into that 20% - so it's almost self-selecting and people will tell you everything is impossible or there are very few services - you only need a bit of help or the right job and it'll fall into place. Thing is you have control over this situation and can make decision in your time so it's probably not scary as you have options.

childcare is a mare though i feel slightly easier for you because of ryans age have a word with social services they are usually a mine field of knowledge of special little clubs and child minders for after school.

my boy used to go to a summer play scheme run by the local special needs playgroup, he had one to one help.

some childminders aren't fazed at all , a girl i knew a few years back was a childminder and out of the million kids she looked after only one didn't have any special needs they are out there ,well i'm hoping there are for september when i go to college fulltime 15 yr old downs lad needing after school care i am finding v v v difficult
