Washer dryer recommendations?

My Beko washing machine gave up on me last night, it is 4 years old.

I am thinking of replacing it with a washer dryer (in one machine)

If it was just me on my own I'd just get a washing machine, but now there is 2 adults and a 1 year old.

Now that winter is approaching drying all the clothes and bedding he gets through will be a nightmare (we don't have radiators to dry stuff on)

We live in a flat so no outside space to dry.

Does anyone have a washer dryer they like and would recommend?

Washer dryers have a much smaller capacity than a washing machine and have a shorter life expectancy due to be used so much more.

I would look at getting the machine you have repaired 4 years and it still should basically be OK it'll just be something easy to repair and look at getting a condenser dryer which can be placed anywhere in your flat even in a bedroom.

What's the fault with the machine?

  • Its been playing up for a while, last night it washed the clothes but all the water didn't drain out so they're all soaking wet still

Plus the digital display, no matter where you turn the dial it just says 00:00 and flashes.

A couple of people have said the programmer has gone?

Blocked filter? Easy fix. Seriously consider fixing it. It's worth it. Mine had that fault too and there were pennies and bits of wire in the filter. Fixed it myself for free.

Yes at least check if the filter is blocked. My beko from time to time doesn't drain a load, I put it on a spin cycle then the next wash is fine. Also the programme leaves the display saying 00:00 sometimes, I just turn it off and on again and it's fine.

If you can possibly get separate machines then do so.

Washer driers have a reputation for being unreliable and, certainly, the inability to do a wash while the previous one is drying will continually annoy you.

I left it off all night and this morning turned it on and its still the same.

Although I haven't pulled the machine out and turned it off at the wall yet

I've had my washer dryer (whirlpool) for 13 years. The dryer packed up after three years but the washer works fine. Everyone I have spoken to says that this is pretty much the norm for these machines.

    Totally agree with this.
When I had a combined washer/dryer, as well as being annoying that I couldn't wash another load until the previous load had dried, I also found that the dryer wasn't very efficient and clothes took a very long time to dry.
I now have them separate and it's so much better and quicker.

My advice would be to not buy one. Buy separate machines if you can. Buy an airer that you can use to dry small stuff, go to the launderette with the big stuff.
  • I'd love to buy separate but there is not room in my kitchen (oh how I dream of buying a house with a utility room!)

Cant face another winter of having damp clothes drying round the flat. Im sure that cant be good for little ones?
