EE upgrade, contract ends in October

I'm coming to the end of my contract with EE(it runs out on 29th October) but I can upgrade early from 14th September.

When checking for the cheapest quotes through MoneySupermarket.com for the LG G4 I find that the Upgrades tab prices are way more than for the standard contract deals. As I am upgrading am I forced to take the Upgrade options or am I allowed to still take the contract listed on the main page?

The cheapest deal with CWH is £26.99 with a hefty £120 or £140 Handset fee. So far EE can't even match this but this might change when I phone them(so far I've just checked in store and they seem to be unwilling to pin an actual contract price until I am due for the upgrade.)

On the MS site the cheapest deal is £22 with a £38 Handset fee with Vodafone. Unfortunately in my area they don't have 4G and even the 3G is not very good. Another offer is O2 for £25 a month which I might take. The problem is if I change company do I still need to choose the deal as an upgrade as the price increases alot with this?

Another option is to stay with EE but from what I've read if I stay with EE but take out a "new contract" instead of an upgrade then I won't be able to transfer my number.

Any help would be appreciated as this is the first time I've had to upgrade a mobile contract.

Hardly a surprise as now you can't vote with your feet without paying the termination fee. Good early upgrades are a delusion. And even when your minimum term is over, the best deals are for new customers.

You can take a contract for new customers, but you'll have to pay for two contracts until you can cancel the old one without fees and you'll have to jump through hoops to port the old number to the new contract.

Well the contract can be terminated without fees when the contract finishes I assume. I know I have to give 30 days notice beforehand so that might be the easiest option, although I would prefer to stick with EE.

I can always try to push for a better deal but if push comes to shove then I may be forced to switch. Can you keep your number if you stick with the same network but buy through a reseller? £27 is the cheapest with that option.

Of course the Xperia Z5 looks good now though. If only it came out instead of Z3+ it could have had a chance to drop in price.

Only if you upgrade through a reseller. Otherwise you'll have to port the number in two steps via another network.

Why don't you speak to EE upgrades as they may have upgrade deals they keep for callers rather than online upgrades? I know several people who got better deals on their upgrades by ringing through than were being offered online or by 3rd party resellers.

I did try in the EE store but they weren't much help.

I've found a bargain for Xperia Z5 so I'm trying to get a better deal on that(with no luck so far).

I've got to phone EE up to cancel my contract so hopefully they might do me a deal

Im thinking about the upgrade process. It may be cheaper to cancel before the contract is up as you save on vat which they can't charge you for. Yes that means you pay for a month you are not going to use but the car phonewarehouse can do it there and then as an upgrade and they can do a better monthly deal than going direct. They just call ee for you and you make the payment over the phone and it unlocks the upgrade options in store. I like to get my hands on the phone thereviews and then.
