Please help - 5 Britannia PCN's received through the post

Hello all!

After reading this forum and other similiar forums I thought I'd post on here as the old advice to simply "Ignore" isn't appropriate these days!

Today I got home from work to see that I (The registered keeper) had received not 1 not even 2 but 5 PCN's from Britannia Parking asking me to pay them £50 each within 14 days if not £85 each after this......

It's not a case of parking outside a bay, parking in a disabled bay, time running out on parking etc etc simply put no ticket was paid for at the time.... Now I'm more than happy as the registered keeper to pay the £4.95 daily charge for the days I've missed but can't say I wish to pay £250 for 5 days parking

My initial thoughts after doing a bit of homework is that it appears the PCN haven't issued the NTK letter in the correct time scales......

Date of contravention : 10th August, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th August

All the tickets came through the post today (9th September) dated 7th September which is outside the 14 day timescale correct?

The signage in the car park is extremely difficult to read when driving into the carpark and the £50 charge seems a bit excessive. The carpark used to be a pay and display and recently a ANPR system has been added instead of this, I usually pay using a Whoosh mobile app but quite simply forgot, didn't think anything of it and thought I wouldn't hear from them but unfortunately I have.

How should I proceed?

Appeal to Britannia and then POPLA if the initial appeal is rejected? (Which I suspect it will be)

Any help/guidance will be greatly appreciated!

  • Yes it's a great read but also confused me a tad.....

Only reason for the post was that there's multiple pcn's not just the 1... Do I have to appeal each one individually or should I put them all together?

The car park itself isn't linked to any shops/retail park so I can't complain under that route with receipts etc

Was just a bit concerned as no ticket has been paid for........on multiple occasions!
  • yes appeal each one individually in order to get a POPLa code for each one

please do that email this evening , and await a reply

just fill in your reg number , a date a couple before the incident , and todays date

and add your full name and address
  • Thanks for the help so far! Nice to see they have a full house of evil parking tools at their disposal

Email sent to DVLA so will wait to see what they say...

In regards to the appeal process what's the best chance of success? The fact the amount they want now is extortionate? Surely if the driver simply forgot to pay on multiple occasions this doesn't help the cause.......

Each ticket should be appealed separately. Do NOT appeal in bulk.

You need to get POPLA verification codes for each PCN by using the standard appeal from the newbies sticky, post #1. Use it 'as is'. No amendment, addition, adjustment.

Whether (multiple) tickets were or not paid is somewhat immaterial to where you are now, you just need to work through the full panoply of appeals for each ticket, progressing to POPLA in due course and getting each cancelled. The beauty of individual appeals to POPLA (not that they'd ever deal with multi tickets in one appeal) is that it will cost the PPC £27 + VAT for each appeal. Put together a good 'un and they might just be encouraged to get out the abacus to work out the odds - and scurry away, leaving you in the clear. But no guarantees, promises, assurances that this will ultimately be the case.

But, for the future, where payment of the day ticket is needed, it needs to be paid. This forum isn't one that encourages wanton abuse/ignoring of parking signage and payment requirements, it's one of the main reasons PPCs are employed by landowners, and innocent/vulnerable/aged (and so on) motorists are open to in-the-face extortion and serious aggravation from PPCs for years on end.

No PPC in the country will be interested in back-payment of £4.95 a day when they now have the 'green light' to pursue for £100 a day. Do the math, as our USA cousins would say!

  • Thank you for the info!

As nice as the back payment option would have been for Me I can't say I'm too surprised the PPC won't accept this :( Wishful thinking eh..........

For all the stress this has now caused I wish I'd just bloody used the app or made a more conscious effort to get some change sorted out for the car park!

Does the fact that there wasn't a PCN stuck on my car and the NTK's have come through the post 21+ days later make any difference now or only at the POPLA stage?
  • ANPR system , NTK must arrive in 14 days or less

tickets on car , NTK MUST be sent between days 29 and 56 after the incident ,

are you suggesting that the first written notice to you for each ticket arrived after 14 day deadline for non ticketed cars (ANPR)

You can try that at the initial appeal stage, but it's unlikely to succeed in cancellation(s). But you have to be uber careful not to indicate who might have been the driver, so no 'me, myself, or I'. Nor 'my wife, brother, sister, mother, daughter, son .... and so on'. Just 'the driver'.

Very few PPCs throw away the opportunity to get their hand in your pocket for £100 (x 5), so save your maxi ammo for POPLA. Get those (five) verification codes!

  • It uses ANPR system and there's never been a ticket stuck on my car!

The NTK's I received today are all dated 7th September 2015 but the latest date out of the 5 contraventions is 17th August 2015 which is longer than the 14 days if my maths are correct! What does this mean?!

It means that, if these are ANPR captures and they are beyond the 14 day limit for keeper liability, they need to chase the driver, not the keeper. All explained in the NEWBIES FAQ sticky.
