Cheap flights to South Africa?

Options
Hoping to travel to J'burg next year. Myself and husband, and son who will be 12 by then. Flying from Aberdeen on or around the 4th of April and returning on or around the 24th. Best deal so far is £1538 - ouch! Any tips or recommendations please?

Thanks!

try flying from a different airport down south , may involve an overnight stay but savings could be a lot

Heathrow to JNB is a major route with lots of competition: look at airlines like Ethiopian (who are not bad, and offer the option of a free stopover in Addis).
  • Even Kenya Airways from LHR comes out at about £1500, it really isn't a bad price.

the taxes alone for 3 passengers come out at over £1,000 so you are finding a pretty good price.
You could go to Dublin and get the 3 of you for under £1,300 (lower taxes) but by the time you factor in getting there and the risk of separate tickets the saving will be nothing

£1473.00 Aberdeen - Frankfurt - Johannesburg (Lufthansa) - using Momondo Website. Even from London it's going to be £1400.00 with Kenya Airways and £1300.00 from Dublin but doubt if you'll get return flights for 3 to Dublin for under £100.00. Dublin - Heathrow - Johannesburg are with British Airways though:beer:

That's not a bad price at all. What were you expecting to pay? If you can fly back on the 25th, Lufthansa is £1452 although be aware that it's a completely inflexible ticket (i.e. no changes, no refunds).
