just saved £394.70

Options
We didn't realise how much our broadband and phone bill had gone up, and until I came across MSE we had not even thought about it, money just left the account and we thought heyho that's how much it costs. Thanks to MSE I am now £394.70 a year better off, after just spending 2 hours looking for a good deal. Thanks MSE, and bye bye talktalk.

Right, now to check what else I can save on :)

(and will someone tell the other half that no, he still can'y go for a pint, not until I reach mytarget of saving us £1000 a year :D:D )

It may be more helpful to people is you could explain how you have managed to save that amount on a phone and broadband deal.
  • oh, sorry! new to this, just by never checking or questioning how much we were paying (turns out it was a whopping £41 a month!) and by changing to sky with their offers and £100 reward for being a new customer our total saving over the year is huge.... I guess folks that are more savvy than we were would not be paying as much to start with... Rang talktalk and they said the best we could get was £26 a month. So sky works out cheaper for us this year, and I will check all the deals next year before renewing.
Had I not started looking into money saving tips for a daughter who is off to uni I would never have found this site.
needless to say I'm now checking all our other outgoings with a magnifying glass! (and directing all my friends here)

How did you manage to pay £41pm with TT? They are consistently one of the cheapest providers-with CS to match, of course.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Do they, perhaps, leave on long term customers on the old , more expensive tariffs? From posts on here, it would appear that BT have done that. ( Saying that a ,usually elderly, relative should have been told about newer cheaper options.)
  • We were a long term customer who had just never checked around for anything cheaper, and naively didn't question when it went up and up year on year. When I eventually rang them they quoted more over the phone than they advertise on their website, and told me that was the best they could do, and were actually quite brusque (almost rude), so I'm pleased to leave them - I just hope all the emails and phone calls since they got notification of our switch will stop soon.

Glad you've managed to save quite a bit on your monthly bills :) Too many people just stick with their current arrangements and don't do any shopping about to well done for finally doing so :)
