Well I never put the system in place and am just giving my view as to why I believe it is a low amount, I know I could not live on 30 odd quid a week that's for sure.

I was having a go at the Government rather than you

But don't forget, everyone, Ian Duncan Smith could live on it.

    Like hell he could.
  • When I was on JSA I could feed myself, put electric on the key each week, generally live and still run a motorbike. Its plenty enough. Learn to really budget or get a job. Cant get a job because of being in prison? tough, don't commit crime.

Sorry to be so blunt etc etc but its the way it is. Theres pretty much no help there as its already been exhausted. Maybe you could ask family/friends to borrow you some money until you get paid?

You'll need to prioritise that money. For 2 weeks, you will literally survive and that's it. It will need to be spent on food and electricity or gas and nothing else. No going out, no fags, no beer, nothing. You can do it on £36 a week.

He's out now and has served his sentence.

Presumably he'd like to become a useful and contributing member of society - he needs assistance to find work and some support in the meantime.

Yes, 'waiting days' for new claims increased from 3 days to 7 days last year.

So JSA claimants will receive 1 week's worth for the first fortnight of their claim.

Universal Credit claimants have to wait over 5 weeks for first payment.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

The standard rate for a single person is £73.10 per week but the initial 7 waiting days mean the first payment, one week's money, needs to last 2 weeks. Being on Income Related JSA means you have access to other benefits such as Housing Benefit to cover all or part of your rent, free prescriptions etc.
The £50 advance paid was to help see you through the shortfall of the first payment. As others have already said, you need to learn to manage - many other do. It's not a lot and it's not meant to give people an easy or comfortable life, just about enough to exist on.
I would add that if you go around to your council or other support agencies with a !!!!!! attitude they aren't going to be inclined to put themselves out to help you. It's not their fault you are in this situation.
