How Do I Remove A Program on Windows 10?

Options
Please can someone help. I can't seem to find the add & remove programs feature on windows 10. I want to remove Google as it has stopped working and try reinstalling it. Oh I wish I had never upgraded to windows 10, can you go back to windows 7?

Windows Logo+X, Programs and Features, then select the program to uninstall.
I assume you want to uninstall Chrome ("Google" isn't a program).
You can revert to 7 assuming a. you haven't clean installed and b. you upgraded within the last month.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.
  • Upgraded over a month ago. Yes I was going to uninstall chrome but I don't think it will cure the problem when I reinstall it. The problem is google search page. If I type anything in, it displays the site but when I click onto it then it does nothing just goes back to the search page. This has only happened since last weekend.
  • You can only downgrade to Windows 7 if you did the Windows 10 Upgrade option. (You installed from that pop-up that came up, and did it as a windows update).

If you installed fresh from a disc onto your Hard drive (less likely), then you will not be able to revert back, and will need to purchase a new Windows 7 license.

To uninstall a program please go to Windows Explorer, click on "This PC" on the left hand sidebar, and then there should be an option to uninstall a program on your top bar, as shown in this screenshot: (I am a new user and cannot yet post links, so please copy and paste this into your address bar in a new tab or window to view it)

From there select Google Chrome from the list, and then click on "Uninstall".

Google chrome will then be removed from your PC.

Ensure you have another browser installed that you can use, so that you can continue to access the internet.

I had to google how to uninstall something too because I couldn't find the control panel and the settings search refused to show anything at all on the topic. Similarly I had to google to find out how to set a default program because default programs and file associations threw up no results there either.

IMO if MS are going to alter the way you do such simple tasks and move them from control panel to settings they should at least provide results in the settings search. It annoyed me so much that I just reinstalled Classic Shell which I had been trying to avoid and go with the W10 flow. You still get control panel there :) I know now I could have just used File explorer/ This PC / properties to get there but didn't realise that at the time.

Or indeed right-click on the start button, or WindowsKey+X

I think one issue with the search is that it relies on indexing the machine, which takes some time, so when you first try to use it (exactly the point when you *most* need its help) it hasn't built its indexes (indices?) yet.

Thanks for the Windows Key + x pointer - it still works with classic shell and is certainly a quick way to get to useful stuff. So useful I may even remember it next week....

Oh - this machine is used daily and I put W10 on it a month ago. It still throws up no results in settings search for either of those topics.

It was doing exactly the same on my computer about a week ago, and I'm still running windows 7. I don't know what the problem was, but it cured itself after about 3 days.

In the mean time, the work-around that I used was to select a bit of text, then right click -> search with Google. Once you get a Google page you can then type a new search string in and find what you want.

Win Key + s has often helped me on Win 8.1.

There is another thread on here with varying opinions regarding Chrome, and whether it works or not.

It is a good one (in Windows 8.x as well). As Grumpycrab pointed out it gets you directly to Programs and Features too.

If I type 'Uninstall' into the search box at the top of the 'Settings' app, I get a sensible list of options including 'Programs and Features', 'Apps and features' (the new way to uninstall programs within Settings) and 'Add or remove programs'

If I type 'Uninstall' into the 'Cortana' search box on the task bar, I get the same results. However I have cheated a bit by switching off Cortana's ability to look at Bing and the web, so it is just a local search.

If I include Bing and the web, the default result opens a browser and the top result takes me to a Microsoft page on how to uninstall a program in Windows 7 ... which it helpfully points out is the wrong version of Windows for my computer. :rotfl:

Clicking on 'My Stuff' when doing a 'Cortana' search improves it... though I'm not sure how you're supposed to know to do that.
