Internet explorer has stopped working

Options
Exactly one week ago I purchased an ASUS laptop from PC World. It has 1TB hard drive, 12gb ram, i7 and runs explorer 11 and Windows 8.1. I purchased office 365 at the same time and loaded via a key. Pretty much from day 1 I have had issues with internet explorer frequently dropping the connection and displaying the message (internet explorer has stopped working). Up until yesterday, I have managed to regain connection and carry on but now I can't access any internet. the message displayed says - a problem caused the program to stop working. Windows will close the problem and notify you if a solution is available. No solution has sadly been notified to me. I have used the system restore button to go back to my purchase date but this prevented anything from working so I had to restore it back. I have looked for solutions on U tube but they vary so much I am scared I will get myself into more of a pickle. I am not at all techie minded and really need a simple solution. Can anyone please help me or do you think I could go into PC World and get them to sort it out - I doubt they will though as they will probably want to send it back to ASUS which will mean being without my new toy on my upcoming holiday (one of the reasons I bought it now).

Download a clean copy of IE and remove the old one .
Or try update in IE settings or help / troubleshooting .
  • Sadly the problem is preventing me from getting onto the internet so I am unable to download a clean copy. I have gone through all the troubleshooting options on the system. I think a visit to PC World is in order... wish me luck!

    Why ?

So you can have adverts and all sorts of scripts, beacons, analytics etc following you all over the internet ?

Did you buy and install any antivirus/security package ?

Could be the AV causing issue. If it comes with a trial AV solution, get rid of it and see what happens.

Wanting to get IE working is fine (although not something I would prioritise myself) but to refuse to even try another browser, which could help you get online to assist in your problem resolution, seems perverse.

    Was just saying it.
    Fair enough then use FireFox.
    And never worry again.

No, not perverse - just my choice and as I am not very technically minded, would prefer to use what I know. In any event, as I said, I cannot even get onto the internet so do not have the ability to download one of the others you suggest. Academic now though as I have just returned from PC World who could not sort the issue and claim it is a serious fault within windows. I have had my money returned and now have to order a new one when back in stock. Thanks to those who tried to help....
