Go with the ford handbook and the tyres on there already. All websites get the size of the tyres for my car wrong too against the handbook, whether they ask for my reg number or the car make, type and year. Go with the handbook, I don't know where the websites get their data from but it certainly isn't the manufacturers.

It doesn't matter what it says in the book or on any web site. As one post has already stated different models of different specification will specify different tyres.

You can’t change a 165/65/R13 tyre to 155/70R13 one tyre is 16.5 cms wide and the other is 15.5 cms wide. The replacement will not sit on the wheel rim safely.

Go and read details the tyre.

There are plenty of tyre fitters out there on the web, just google tyre fitting. Most of the high street vendors are more expensive than the most competitive vendors. With some vendors, you buy the tyre on the website and then you can choose a local fitter from their list of affiliates, book a date and just turn up. I recently saved over £50 on two tyres in this way compared to kwik fit.

Above all else make sure you choose the right tyre size.

The 2 most important are the 1st and 3rd 165/xx/R13 these denote the width of the tyre and the radius of the wheel it is being fitted on. make sure these match you existing tyres.

The middle number denotes the aspect ration in percent. Basically it is the height of the tyre relative to the width. the lower the number the lower the profile. "low profile" tyres have really low numbers here. The effect of deviating from the existing profile may impact on the handling of the vehicle and also the fuel consumption. With lower profile tyres you are effectively reducing the circumference of the tyre and this will reduce the distance travelled per revolution of the drive shaft. Increase the profile height and you raise the centre of gravity of the vehicle which will impact on the stability of the vehicle. Increasing the profile will also increase the risk of the tyres contacting the car body and in turn damage the tyre.

Basically, match the tyres already on the vehicle. Just be a bit frugal and shop around for the best deal.

    Hello,

I am thinking of buying some tyres for my ford KA. From the manual, the tyre should be 165/65/R13.

However, I went to several web sites such as kwik fit, and found that if I do a tyre search, the recommended tyre type for ford KA will be 155/70T13.
It is actually quite hard to find a 165/65/R13 tyre (I mean most sites have a tyre search option, but if I choose 165/65, I won't be able to choose R13, instead it went to H or T).

I am bit confused, can someone help me?

    Many Thanks
    Jerry
