ford KA tyre?
Hello,
I am thinking of buying some tyres for my ford KA. From the manual, the tyre should be 165/65/R13.
However, I went to several web sites such as kwik fit, and found that if I do a tyre search, the recommended tyre type for ford KA will be 155/70T13.
It is actually quite hard to find a 165/65/R13 tyre (I mean most sites have a tyre search option, but if I choose 165/65, I won't be able to choose R13, instead it went to H or T).
I am bit confused, can someone help me?
Many Thanks
Jerry

165/65/R13 - this indicates that the tyre has section width of 165mm, with a section height 65% of the section width. The 'R' indicates it's a radial tyre. and the 13 is the diameter of the hole in the middle of the tyre. The 'H' and 'T' you're referring to are probably the speed ratings for the tyres.

You will need to replace the tyre with the same size as already fitted. If you look at the side of the tyre, you should see the size moulded onto it in pretty big numbers, it is usually near the manufacturers name.
The letter 'R' usually means it is a radial constructed tyre.
The letter, S or T (there are others as well) is the speed rating of the tyre, or the maximum speed the tyre can safely operate at. The higher the letter is in the alphabet, the faster the tyre can safely run at.
Here is a linky to a site which explains it better than me http://www.blackcircles.com/general/sidewall0 -
I am thinking of buying some tyres for my ford KA. From the manual, the tyre should be 165/65/R13.
165 = width in mm
65 = side wall profile – side wall height expressed as a percentage of its width
R13 = radius 13 inches
You have not included the speed rating, which depends on the maximum speed of your car.
S 180 km/h or 112 mph
T 190 km/h or 118 mph
U 200 km/h or 125 mph
H 210 km/h or 130 mph
V 240 km/h or 149 mph
W(ZR) 270 km/h or 168 mph
Y(ZR) 300 km/h or 186 mph
ZR Above 240 km/h or 149 mph:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
If you are still looking, try
http://www.kumhotyre.co.uk/Tyres/TyreByTyre.html
They are fantastic tyres for relativly cheap price. Far Far better than many other brands and I know alot of Traffic Police who rave about them.
They have one in your size, it may be worth giving the dealer a call once you've put your postcode in?0 -
Hi,
Thanks for replies.
So technically, if I replace all the four 165/65/R13 tyres to 155/70R13. It should be OK, isn't it?
Still wondering why ford Manul says tyre is 165/65/R13, but when I searching on internet, all tyre sites say ford KA should use 155/70R13. But I guess it won't really matters as long as I keep all the four tyres the same type.
Many Thanks0 -
Some are fitted with 155/70/R13 and others with 165/65/R13 which are available on tyre websites. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Yes it will. Wrong tyres can invalidate the insurance for a car as it would be unroadworthy.
Why are you trusting websites over the only thing on paper you have from ford?0 -
Agreed you are penny pinching!
e.g. Pirelli P3000 E 155/70T13 £30.75
and the correct size 165/65T13 £36.00 available at your quoted website Kwikfit.

Replace the tyres currently on your vehicle with tyres of the same size / specification. Go out and look at the tyres on your Ka to see exactly what their size and specification is."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Most cars are available in (lots of) different specs. and engine sizes, so I find it hard to believe that all Ford KAs will require the same size tyre!.....0
