There is something about Internet Explorer 7 which I upgraded to a couple of days ago that tells me "I wish I hadn't".
I'm not having trouble with adapting to the layout by the way.
When I go on-line, it takes something like 4 mins for a connection to be made, as aginst almost immeadiate with "6".
Then, as I progress through my various regular sites, "bleep" and a message arrives :- Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls on your computer, Clic here for options".
Actually I wasn't aware of this narrow band untill I went to my Swanage Council streaming webcam and the pic failed to display and read through the reasons. They had said, go to Int.Ex > tools > opt and temorarily lower your security settings. I'm now wondering if I enabled/disabled anything I shouldn't.
Either way, as an aside, I have read that a number of people have elected to return to Int/Ex 6. If I were to do that, is it a case of going to programmes, unsubscribing Int/Ex 7 and then will 6 still be there?.
If not, maybe someone would explain clearly the procedure and they say if by doing it, settings would be as I left them two days ago.

Hi,
if you want to go back to IE6, you do it through add/remove, and it takes you back to as you were, though I think you could have a go at sorting out the little problems first.0 -
Or give Firefox a try. Its interface is more like IE6's.0
-
Leave your security on the default level do this instead:
Tools -> Security -> Custom Level.
Scroll down to "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and then enable "Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls. If that is already enabled and you still have problems with ActiveX enable "Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompting"Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0 -
Go back to IE6, it is much better than IE7, or better still, use Firefox.;)0

Thanks guys I've noted what you say and am going to read'em again and act accordingly by following each of your posts (but will get on to Firefox later, as I haven't ruled it out) BUT, because I may have done something else wrong because when I went to www.flashearth.com today (I used it yesterday) I got this :-
PLEASE NOTE: To view this website you will need at least
Flash Player 7 and to have to JavaScript enabled — thank you!
so somewhere along the way, I've clicked and mucked up the javascript thing, so how do I reverse that situation please.
Cerro, I have now done this:-
If that is already enabled and you still have problems with ActiveX enable "Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompting" but have'nt seen a change.
Frugalmacdugal If I do go along the route of Add/Remove, can I be certain the IE6 is still there? and if it is, will everything be as I left it ?, bearing in mind I've been clicking a bit !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Sounds like something else is now blocking both javascript and ActiveX - it will be a security setting in IE7 (why they had to lock it down so much is beyond me). If you set the security to low and go to these sites do they work? If so then that is definately a security setting, if not then its something else... also then try firefox (you will need to install some plugins) see if it works - will tell you if its IE7 in general.
If you decide to roll back to IE6 you can always download IE6 again, so its no big problem.Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0 -
Thanks, lets say that I do wish to get IE6 back, I've just had a look in Add/Remove and see no sign of IE6. In the area I thought it would be is:-
Windows Installer 3.1
Windows Internet Explorer 7
Windows Media Format 11
Windows Media Player 11
Windows XP Service Pack 2
so, how would I achieve IE6This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Well i've never actually tried so I can't say for certain but if you do the uninstall then go to the windows update site IE6 should be an available download (or google "IE6 download" and get it from one of MS's sites as a direct download - probably easier)Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0

You don't Add IE 6, you Remove IE7. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Hi,
yes you remove Windows Internet Explorer 7, and it reverts back to IE6, with all your settings and favs.
I did it last week as was having a problem with web pages, but have re-installed it, as it wasn't the problem, and I like the tabs option.0
