  • Natural History Museum is free and awesome

Also, take a bag of monkey nuts, go to St Jame's park and feed the squirrels, tap the nut on the railing and they come take them out your hand great fun for a price of some monkey nuts

An off peak day ticket for the tube is £12 for an adult and kids go free. Just put them in front of you and use your ticket at the gate not the narrow booths entrance. The tube operates on the points of the compass so all lines are either North South East or West bound. If you know your compass points it's easy. If you find yourself going the wrong way just get off at the next stop, cross the platform and get on a train going the other way.

We go every year to visit my dad and my 10 year old loved Camden Market this year - full of tourist tat but with some interesting individual stuff too.

We are coming over the England from Australia and have got 3 days in London. We have tickets for Buckingham Palace for one day, the science musuem and Natural History another, then Tower of London on the last day. Do you think that it would be best to do the bus tour on our last day, I'm thinking we might need to grab a taxi and do a whirlwind tour! We have two teenagers with us.
Also we are staying near St Pancras, any good restaurants to recommend?
Sorry to jump on the thread but it seemed pointless creating a new one :-)

  • Don't grab a black taxi unless you have untold money to spend.

Just get on a bus and look out the window, do a bus 'tour' if you like but feet and bus give you the best views of London.
  • If you have teenagers let them loose in Camden.
They'll also love Top Shop & Nike at Oxford Circus
Fish and chips at the Sea Shell in Lisson Grove v close to where you're staying.
London is full of the most amazing restaurants of every kind and price.
Round Edgware Road you'll find amazing Lebanese middle eastern food.
Let us know what you fancy.

Thank you :-) Fish and chips sound good, I dont think we will be up for a three course meal after a busy day so just a cheap feed would be good!

I'll add Oxford Circus to the list, maybe we can do that on the day we do Buckingham Palace, I need to check how long the tour lasts.
Thanks for the tip about the taxis/bus. With the exchange rate the way it is now, no I dont have the cash!!

  • Yikes wrong station in my head, forgive me Lisson Grove is not close to you.

Despite decades of hearing how rubbish food is in England much of it is actually quite good.

Do be prepared for it being expensive though.
  • Postcodes are your friend in London.
If you have the postcode for where you're staying bung it into google and lots of local services and attractions will pop up.

Sorry I'm working so a bit unreliable because I'm rushed, have a lovely holiday.

St Pancras - for chains there's a Carluccios on the upper deck. Traditional fish and chips at North Sea Fish in Leigh Street. Near the British Museum there's konakis for Greek food in Coptic street. All sorts of restaurants in Charlotte street. And if you want to venture into the City, Indian restaurants galore in Brick Lane.

For teenagers Camden market is a must. They'll want to go to Covent Garden too

P.s. Yes avoid taxis. You can get anywhere by bus or tube. Get hold of a bus map as soon as you arrive, there's very good information about routes and destinations at bus stops. If you are going to be able to do internet then check out transport for london's journey planner. It occasionally throws up weird routes (it once insisted that Windsor castle was in Clapham, apparently thinking people wanted to go to a pub rather than a real castle) but is usually reliable.
