Payment Received on Card - Not Me

Hi

I have received a payment allocated to my Credit card for £572.10 with a reference and signature used (Not mine)

The Details of the vendor are "Payment, Thank You".

I never made this payment to my credit card, i have called Barclaycard but they hung up just after the security questions.

What is the best course of action, Do i request that money, technically its not mine or do i leave it for them to figure out.

Any ideas.

  • If you know for sure it is not yours then you will be asked for it back, I'd ring again and if that fails drop an email over asking for it to be looked into.

Has the payment put your credit card into a positive balance (in credit)?

Did it occur to you to possibly try calling Barclaycard again?

If you didn't make the payment then yes inform them as chances are it's a clerical error and the payment will be recalled.

  • ill try again soon, it has put it into a credit status, just thought maybe could be Barclaycard refunding some PPI or something without me requesting it.
Fat chance they`ll just hand it over though.

Leave it there. Keep using the card as you would normally but be prepared for the payment to be recalled. I wouldn't chase it but I'd just be prepared. I also would not request the money be transferred to a current account I'd just keep using the card as normal.

Someone made a payment to his/her card and got the reference (16 digit card number) wrong, so their money ended up in your account.

In a few days they will notice that the payment hasn't been credited to their account, so they'll contact BC who will check where the payment went to and move it to the correct account.

Do not spend or remove the money, the mistake will be rectified in due course.

It must be catching. i checked my online account today and there is a credit paid into my Barclaycard account yesterday and i definitely did not pay any money in.

I will just ignore and pay my balance off I know I owe and let BC figure it out.

sounds like an error somewhere with Barclaycard.

The same thing has happened to me too today.

I assume it'll eventually be fixed and the money removed again
  • I have found that they usually respond quite quickly to the secure message function on the website and it saves the effort of a phone call.

Best to work on the assumption that the money isn't yours and will eventually be corrected out. If you have tried to inform them and haven't tried to take the money then there isn't much more you can do.

After reading this thread I decided to login and check. I've two Barclaycards with separate logins and one of them has a phantom payment as well!

I had similar on my Barclaycard credit card but for different amount. Apparently it is a glitch due to the payment issues with HSBC. They said it will be rectified, but could not say exactly when.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
