• Maybe not thread of the week but this, yesterday, is the kind of post that seriously undermines any claim by the HPC crashtrolls to any of the moral high ground:

Hopefully, with the BTL brigade routed and the global economy on the rocks, it won't be long now before vendors will be accepting offers I can afford

There you have it: he wants a global economic disaster to happen so he can have a cheaper house.

It doesn't seem to have occurred to him that he'll probably be one of the casualties.

Too much time on Motely Fool?

So much denial, so little time

Name a date. Make a testable prediction. Vague mutterings about dark times in the future should be left for fortune tellers and not those taking part in rational macroeconomic debate.

(Though I do accept that all that differs is attitude rather than accuracy!)

• I have worked extremely hard to build a deposit, and will continue to do so. All the creative thinking in the world won't change the numbers in my bank account or on RightMove.
Is it possible that you could work a bit harder? Possibly take on a second job like take away delivery driver? Sometimes you get good tips. Unfortunately homeownership isn't for everyone. Before my wife and I bought I had to knuckle down for a few months. It is worth it in the end.

The first step to solving a problem is to admit that you have one, so well done for that.

Two more of the crew threatening to leave. One is going to rent no more than a 'year of so' and he's taking his £1m with him. The other is on his way to a Northern Hell Hole™ to escape the 'corrupt HPI, rentier cesspit that is London'.

Trouble is with moving to escape problems is you have to take yourself with you.

That is so true, I have sometimes wondered how many people have moved far away because they thought that they were not happy where they were, only to later discover that the real problem was them, not where they were.

I nearly did it myself when I was 24 years old, I applied to emigrate to Australia, thinking that I wasn't advancing in this country, due to lack of opportunities. Luckily they didn't accept me (Oz had just gone into recession) and I concluded that the problem was probably me (rather than a lack of opportunities within the UK), so I went (eventually after recovering from a car accident) back into education as a mature student.

• The goons over on the other side will never accept that the problem is themselves and their screwed up group confirmation bias. Easier to blame others for your own misspent savings and lack of aspiration.

As I posted above, I was guilty of that myself, with me it was my misspent youth as far as education went. I didn't really mature until late in life at 24, I had an attitude that somehow the world owed me a living, rather than having to strive for my own success, then I suddenly realised that I was going nowhere. Then worse still sod's law kicked in, just as I was about to do something about it, I was seriously injured in a car crash, but I was eventually able to get back on track after a 3 year recovery process at 27.

Looks like it just got that bit harder to sell on BTL`s. Problems problems eh? Where would we be without them :rotfl:
