Perhaps you should tell us as you seem to have changed your story.

I believe the shared house was in his early 40's.
He's in his late 40's now and has moved up the ladder, now renting a bedsit with excellent links to the local bus stop. He sure is living the life. :rotfl:

It is spread over many years. My rent this year will be £4800, trust me it is negligible.

Be serious for a minute. You could be mortgage free for the same outlay and that £4800 could go into a pension and get a tax rebate. At your age that's pretty low risk because you'll be able to access it in a few short years.

£4800 might not be a lot but better in your back pocket than your landlords?

I bought when you sold and only maintain a mortgage because I make a profit on the debt. My house actually pays me to live there and makes a nice contribution towards running a holiday place. When I do clear the debt it's looking increasingly like it'll be with tax free income :money:
  • AAMOI who's been calling it wrong longest on HPC?

There were people on Usenet saying UK property had further to fall in 1996. Has anyone been wrong more than 19 years?

Football commentators that reckon that England have got a really good chance this world cup/Euros. Being wrong since 1967 is a pretty decent record.

!!!!!!, England only won in 1966 because the (English) refs let players like Eusebio and Pele get kicked off the park.

I wonder what percentage fall would be required for London properties just to fall to the same level as they were when the HPC website started?
Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop

Why would you care, surely you are living it up in France?
  • If I'd been wrong about something for 20 years, I think I'd give up on having an opinion on the matter at all.

There was a chap on Usenet who thought in 1996 that prices would fall another 70%. The interesting thing is that even if he were proven right tomorrow, he'd still be wrong. The house he feels entitled to would only fall to the price it was in 1996, and if he'd bought it back then, he'd pretty much own it outright by now and not have to care about its price.

Instead, like the angries on HPC, he's probably still renting but wishing misfortune on others so he can profit by it.

I don't have any issues with people who speculate against property from the short side, but they should accept that speculators is what they actually are, instead of applauding themselves as somehow on a moral higher plane just because they called it wrong. They should be grateful to landlords for enabling them to speculate by letting property to them, and above all, they should reflect on their dismal record of forecasting accuracy before offering others advice.
