I said similar sized flat to this one was 350 p.m in 97/98, and this one is 50 p.m more than that now, 50 p.m increase on the similar sized flats, but many different flats/houses in between, but some were shared so sometimes around 330 p.m to live there. No fiction just facts, the main point being that on basic Edinburgh flats there has been hardly any rental increase in many years.
Have we got to take your word for that or have you any links to back it up.

Hey crashy instead of arguing unproveable points I would appreciate your considered response to my post where I answered your questions. I'm genuinely interested to learn your views on what I might have done differently plus it took me ages to type all that on this thing
I paid off my mortgage 6 years ago. And over that time I have saved overt £90k in rent and am now saving £1400 a month. The only time my mortgage was more than rent was for the first few years of the first property I bought. So even without equity I now have in my house I feel I've benefited enormously by buying. Crashy doesn't seem to understand that.

You will have to take my word for it, no way to link to private lets from 97/98 as a far as I know, and I am not putting my address on a forum where there are many (well 11 to be precise:rotfl:) posters with obviously too much time on their hands....:rotfl:

"But bottom line is buying is the best thing to do for the vast majority of people. " Massive generalisation right there, you are taking your position in an area where prices are obviously depressed and extending it to everyone in the country. Typical of the type of nonsense that gets posted on here, but if you are happy with your position why come wailing on here for approval? I have told you twice where there were other options, and won`t do so again.

I wanted a discussion with you as I find talking to people who challenge my views useful for broadening my horizons.

You asked me some specific questions and I answered them I think.

I have generalised but I don't think position unique or special, in fact I would say I and my experiences are pretty average.

I'm not wailing for approval I really want to hear what I could and should gave done differently.

The fact that you've not replied properly when provided with information you've asked for leads me to believe you have nothing to contribute.
Left is never right but I always am.

In their latest bulletin on the letting market, estate agents Rettie said average rents across Scotland are up 5.4 per cent on last year to £762 per month.
But Edinburgh saw the steepest rise – 8.8 per cent for a two-bedroom property and 7.2 per cent for a three-bedroom, which increased from £1126 to £1207 per month. Rettie also noted that three out of four rental properties in Edinburgh were let within a month.
A separate report released by letting agents Your Move showed many tenants were struggling to keep up with record rent levels, with nine per cent of all rent being paid late. It showed the average rent in the Lothians standing at a new high of £604 – and revealed a big spike earlier this year in the money that landlords were making"

Are you really this stupid or is it just an act to get debate going?

If you wanted to own a property with a garden in 2004 for you and your son in that specific area of the UK (I presume) then you couldn`t have done anything differently, this doesn`t mean that buying (borrowing lots of money at interest for most people) is the best option for EVERYONE (a misconception that is trotted out again and again on here)

There are plenty of links showing rents have increased if you google it and rightmove sold prices show prices more than doubling since the early 2000s I think I would be stupid if I didn't question your statements.

Show me a link not sponsored or written by a letting agent and I will start to take you seriously. Private landlords dealing directly with a tenant don`t invite Retties to the house warming party, don`t you get it?
