    Afternoon DFW-ers,

    Today's been a bit of a headbanger.

I took my OH to my dentist this morning to get a "second opinion". (The "first opinion" went very badly.) OH is very choosy about who goes near her mouth with pliers and a drill but luckily my dentist met with her approval. However, the required treatment is going to be £190 for a partial flexible denture in place of the damaged bridgework and we may have to borrow for a couple of weeks to pay for it. It can't wait as her bridgework is loose and she can't have a free acrylic NHS denture, as she tried this before and it was a disaster. Still, that's cheaper than the zillion pound dental implants she originally wanted.

So, I'd no sooner got home from town than I get a call telling me to head back into town for a drugs test for the job I'm hoping to soon be in. Very wasteful on fuel.

    Nillionaire Month Four:

    * Free Physio from OH.

    *
    Checked Finances. OK.

    * Blew a gasket at our energy company. Still no refund and now they're saying it'll be Friday before we get it. Logged a complaint with Resolver. (Link)

    * Limit caffeinated drinks to three coffees today.

    * Turned alarm clock off at the wall til tonight.

    * Do a mini-mountain of job-seeking tasks. Done.

    * Get OH to store away the last of the beetroot.

    * Free sample tube of toothpaste from the dentist. Our preferred brand too!

    * Letter about Housing Benefit says they're going to pay us a lot less than we're entitled to. It looks like they've forgotten we no longer get Tax Credits. Emailed them about this. I don't suppose they'll fix the error quickly either.

    * Washing out on line.

I was going to have a calming nap but my neighbour has just got his chainsaw out.

    Have a good day all.

  • Hi All

Big training day for me. Called into m and super duper on way home and got some YS treats for DH and DS. Pack of cherries for 55p should be over 1.50!!!!!!
We are about to enjoy salmon and fresh veg all YS and have 2 chickens roasting for tomorrow, all for £20. Very naughty as I have lots of meat on freezer, but sometimes YS ticks the box. Also filled up car using last ever Mr T fuel points. Sad to see this scheme end.
Need to update GC for september.

Weather is lovely here and men are wildly busy making silage and doing hedge trimming. Tractors buzzing around the lanes everywhere.

    Hi All

Twiggy - Thanks for starting us off today. You are so good to your OH, cookies & leaving the lights off in the morning, you'll spoil him :)

    Jono
    - Ick that was an early start, hope tonight is better...

Determined - Laughed at your nap refusal stories. Over tired kids who NEED a nap, god I remember that one. And the whole thing of if they dont sleep enough during the day, the nights messed up to. Glad you got her down in the end. Also glad that the words helped you, I cant remember where I got that one, but its true isnt it. Really hope you get the job.

    CCL - Hope you survived?

    LegoMum - Sounds a productive day :)

Dawn - I read your dog comments on yesterdays thread. Interesting about which breeds are in and out of fashion, & expectations of them. I remember Maria making some good comments about people not buying collies unless they can give them the exercise they need.
My husbands family took in a lot of rescues over the years. One sad story was a gorgeous young Doberman, who had been binned by his owners, as they lived in a caravan, & one day when they were at work he ate his way out through the floor...dont think they were best pleased but !!!!!!?? Who keeps a Dobie in a caravan???
Hope the funeral goes as well as it can do tommorow.

Sellurgranny - Did you find any blackberries?

GreenSalad - Your knitting sounds really impressive!

Ally - Glad your OH has managed to find a cheaper solution to her dental situation. Even if cheap isnt really the word to use even now. Sorry about the Housing benefit.

Maria -I think buying YS meat when you see it is a must. Its not like it wont get eaten. Good on you finding the bargains.

    Today for me.

    1) PAD of £8 to the CC. Making reasonable headway on my stretch target for the month, hit 13% today.

    2) Jacket potatoes & tuna mayo, with salad for dinner tonight for me & OH. Very low cost meal.

    3) Made Spag bol for son with a pack of mince & basics sauce, he loves that. Plenty left of the meat, stored away to be made into something else.

    4) Banking checked & all spends logged on App.

    5) Only a small amount of washing today, so wont bother doing a load to save the money till the machine is fuller

    6) Cycled all journies.

    7) Lunches for tommorow done.

    8) Made some tips, not sure how much didnt count up the jar.

    9) Spent some time promoting an event we have on at the business in a few weeks, to ensure we get some attendants.

    10) Wrote my shopping list for the business tommorow, need to be organised as have a film crew coming an hour before normal opening. Nothing flash, just a thing about cafes, but it all helps getting our name to a wider audience. So will need to leave earlier by about 45 mins. Made extra cakes so that the counter will look tempting.

NSD from personal spends, so all good here.

    Night all

    Bob

    Hello everyone :)
Not been on here for a few day's been rather busy!
We've finally found a new house to move into (woop) and I'm going to the agents tomorrow to pay the fees (£250 not brilliant but would rather pay that than the 100's WHB and ACW wanted!!).
Noticed I've been making lists that are quite long but not always doing them all so gonna do a short one today.

    - Breakfast from stores
    - Lunch from stores (tuna pasta)
    - Tidy kitchen cupboards and thow out old food/stuff we won't eat
    - Stop myself from buying an additional drink at work (so far so good)
    - Buy the cats some food
    - Going to friends house after work (which means takeaway, so naughty but nice!!)
    - Done a load of washing and hung it up instead of putting in tumble
    - Used resolver to complain about Sky
    - Get payslips, ID, bank statments ready for letting agents tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good evening :D
    xx

  • Oooh Bob are we going to see you on the telly then?

Managed to get tea in the slow cooker before I went to work - butter chicken which we had with rice, naan and bhajis for a treat - approx cost £4.50 for the 4 of us and a portion left over. Shame it wont freeze.

Bought DS a cheaper version of the shampoo he likes. Also bought tissues, hayfever tablets and paracetamol which came to a fiver. Wish we had a pound shop in town!

Found a library book in DSs bedroom, £2.50 fine, not happy but at least we have renewed it online so no more charges.

Oh and DS has just made me laugh. I bought branded porridge oats because they were on offer and worked out cheaper than the supermarket ones. DS wont use up the old ones and has just told me the branded version are much nice. They are porridge oats for heavens sake - where do these teenagers get their ideas from?? Actually scrap that question, I know the answer, clever marketing. Sigh.

Rock 'n' roll lifestyle at Dowd Towers tonight:

    * Changing all passwords to protect everything. Free, but far from simple.

    * Watching more episodes of 'Are You Being Served?' than is good for us.

    * And woo hoo our utility bill account is showing signs that the refund might be with us soon.

  • Things to do today
    [STRIKE]*check banking and PAD[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]*ring BT and check my DD with them[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]*take DD to big school open evening[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]*15 mins housework and declutter[/STRIKE]
    *get some exercise
    *mark a set of books
Hopefully I'll get some of that done. Have a good day all.

Seems like I've done absolutely nothing today, but I was on the go for an hour when I got up this morning, setting the wm away, rubbish out, washing dishes etc. Then 12 hours from leaving the house to getting home again. Full teaching day, meeting after school then a visit to DD's potential secondary school. I have no clue when I get time to plan or mark, and I know that I can't keep this momentum going without burning out.
Anyway, the MSE thing about today is that there was no chance of me spending any money at all :money: Plus I did all of that batch cooking at the weekend so no temptation with a takeaway either.

Chocolate lover - that's good news about your house.

Ziggy - Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and managing to do a few small bits. Take it easy still though.

Yorkshire - your tea sounds delicious! Ha no to TV this will be straight to YouTube I expect :) hey at the end of the day it's the chance to sell coffee to a film crew. And that is not to be sniffed at.

Ally - your as bad as me and my Fawlty Towers addiction :)

CCL - Hope life slows down a bit for you. Well done on sticking to your MSE ways.
