. . . I'm not at all happy about the idea of disabling XSS protection. . .
I eventually fixed this problem by adding the banking sites to the XSS protection exceptions list, as follows.

NoScript Options -> Advanced tab -> XSS tab

Leave the two options selected (ticked) but add the banking URLs to the exceptions list.

e.g. for Halifax, add the following two lines

    https: //www. halifax-online.co.uk/personal/
    https: //secure. halifax-online.co.uk/personal/

(leave out the spaces I have introduced)

This works fine for me. XSS protection is still generally active except when on Halifax online banking URLs.

Some other exceptions I use are:

    https: //online. tsb.co.uk/personal/
    https: //secure. tsb.co.uk/personal/
    https: //online. lloydsbank.co.uk/personal/
    https: //secure. lloydsbank.co.uk/personal/
    https: //onlinebanking. nationwide.co.uk/

I have found that some online banking sites don't need any exceptions added to the list.

    Hope this helps.

    Apologies for the long post!
    Firefox Problems -

Can be caused by the Options Settings in FF. I have mine set as below, please note that ONLY the options shown should be checked/ticked in the Checkboxes. Underlined letters are as they appear in the option choices.
MENU Bar at top Left: (if this is not seen, right click blank blue area at top, check the “Menu Bar” box.)
From Menu Bar > Tools > Options >
    PRIVACY
    Set check marks in:
'Request that sites do not track you'
'Use Tracking Protection in Private Windows'
    HISTORY
'Remember my browsing and download history'
'Accept cookies from sites' (you can click “Exceptions” and type in any sites whose cookies you don't want.)
'Accept third party cookies' – (in box - “From visited”)
    'Keep until: “I close Firefox”
'Clear history when Firefox closes' – click “Settings” - 'Settings for Clearing History' opens, check in box: -
'When I quit Firefox, it should automatically clear all': -
    'Browsing and Download History' 'Cookies'
    'Active Logins' 'Cache'
    'Form and Search History'
    LOCATION BAR
    Suggest all 3: -
    History
    Bookmarks
    Open tabs.

I apologise to anyone who already knows all this, but I have cured many FF problems by just setting all the Options to clear the FF browser when FF is closed.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
