Is anyone else having problems using Firefox for Halifax on-line banking?

When I log in and land on the accounts overview page, it takes around a full minute for Firefox (40.0.3) to respond and then I'm invited to save a Javascript file. Once the download is cancelled the page operates ok unless I need to return to it after looking at an individual account page.

Don't get that on Halifax, but glitchy on Santander - cpu goes to 100% for half a minute or so then carries on as normal (no .js download). I have seen a .js download request on one site, but can't remember which one.

Running Firefox 40.0.3 as well (on Win XP - don't tell anyone...!).

Similar here. Other banks are noticeably slower but on Halifax, Firefox notifies me that it is "not responding" for about a minute.

Using IE, everything seems ok so it must be Firefox that's playing up - probably a recent update. I disabled NoScript and Adblock Plus but Firefox still not responding. Running on 64-bit Win 8.1.

Thanks for your input. Any thoughts?

I think that tomorrow is another day and it will probably work ok and we will think ... 'how did I fix that'? :)

And today, the banking works fine, but facebook is very slow and when I go away from my homepage on there, it just gives 'error'
Works fine in G Chrome
  • It's likely FireFox that is having the issue. You can try running CCleaner to clean up the junk that FireFox has built up over time, and this may help the website load faster.

It should not be asking you to download or run a Javascript file, as the browser will have javascript capabilities built in. This would only appear when you need to run a javascript function on the website itself that requires permission, and no banking sites would. (imagine the less tech savvy users freaking out about being asked to download a strange file when they try and access their online banking).

I agree, as said above, that Firefox appears to be the culprit. I run CCleaner at least once a week but this has been happening for about a fortnight.

I haven't, yet, tried re-starting Firefox with add-ons disabled so think I might try that next. I'll post again with the result; I don't expect any change but worth a try, I think.

    Thanks again guys & girls.

I also get this from time to time so switch to Chrome or bank through the ipad app.
  • Ok. A result of sorts.

If I restart Firefox with Add-ons Disabled then Halifax on-line seems to work fine.

Anyone else want to give it a go to see if it changes anything for them?

Now to see which add-on is responsible.

I note that when I try Halifax banking, it wants to run an adobe flash file.

I always have flash disabled by default (doesn't cause issues generally) so is it flash that's causing problems?
