I have never paid more than £50 for emus so there are bargains to be had. I noticed they only had very small or large sizes on that site rather than a full range so may be oddments? I have never heard of the site personally though. I paid £50 for stingers from M&M, and £30 for minis from Javari. Also bought a pair or Birdsville from Javari for £22 so they can vary in price.

Amazon are fine providing it is amazon or a reputable seller. Independent sellers obviously are hit and miss.

Does anyone know the difference in quality between the different Emus styles? I have heard that some flop to the side, others hold up well and the difference between styles/names is the only way to tell the good from the bad: has anyone any experience of different styles and different levels of quality within the Emu ranges?

None of mine have sagged - I have Stinger lo and Mini and also Birdsville- but the BV ones are more like pixie boots with fur only from ankle upwards.

I *think* the stingers are better quality than the Brontes. I'm pretty sure I read that when I was ordering mine.

I really can't fault mine though- I think they're better quality than the Uggs I own.

When we/the Ugg site specify UGG in thew url they mean of the website addess, not the searched information.

EG if you look up Uggs on any website they will automaticly have UGG in the searched information, this is not the same as the domain, not the same as the web address. Hope that claifies things.

I understand the terminology - I run websites myself so understand the difference between a domain and an extension. But I am aware of at least two websites that have UGG in the title that are affiliate sites, and promoting products from authorised retailers.

I was just trying to point out that it's not right that any site with UGG in the title is selling fakes, that's all.

The best thing to do is before you submit any card details, check the site you are paying is registered as an authorised seller. That way you are 100% guaranteed the boots you'll receive are genuine. It's the seller (ie the ones that SHIP the boots) that need to be authorised, not any of the promoters, such as affiliates or even the links posted within the original article on this site.
  • The Ugg boot won't quit! It keeps making its' way back every season. Lol.

I think I understand what your saying, but I think when we say UGG in the title we mean the web address, not in the search function finding. Most people seem to get it, sorry it confused you. Others who are confused post their findings on here and someone normally comes along to help and correct the findings (if they are from an obviously fake site). I think its important we describe why we say 'fake site!!' when we see one, otherwise it makes us sound like the UGG police and infact we're just following the instructions given by Uggs website.

So I'm wondering if you as a website designer would have a better way of putting it to save the confusion you mention?
  • I've had Martin's newsletter emailed to me for the last couple of years, thanks to my lovely Glaswegian friend, as I was living in London up until a year ago. However this is the 1st time I've ever written into a forum and feel quite nervous but feel that I must. I just wanted people to know what Deckers have done to the small manufacturers here in Australia. Did you know that the McDougalls amongst others, who have been making and selling ugg boots for a number of years, were sent cease and desist letters just before Christmas 2003 and forbidden to use the name 'ugg'. Despite the fact that everyone in Australia knows ugg boots are a generic term Deckers took them to court saying that they may not use the term 'ugg'. A David and Goliath mismatch if ever I've heard of one. And now it seems that many people are well...sorry.... but duped into thinking that Ugg Australia are the only genuine ugg boots. Awful! How on earth can a large American company trademark the name 'Australia'. Well I suppose it's quite clever really if you think about it. Now if you look up - 'google' ugg on the internet, the only ones that will come up are Deckers. This all smacks of something very nasty that I think people must consider before they buy Deckers.

Right that's my lot and I hope my spelling is ok. If you get the chance to see the documentary on this, do.

It's on the abc television website.

or you can read about this in Wikepedia.

Just a heads up, I opened up the web page for MSE today and found I had a message. It was someone advertising Uggs. Obviously a fake site, don't bother with IMO and report please, the mail sender can be banned and will be that bit further away from trying to scam people.

I understand where your at: its a bit like Tesco trampling on the toes of small retailers or Starbucks putting local coffee shops out of business. Its horrible that the big guys don't look after the little ones in the world of retail but sadly it is dog eat dog out there.

I think it is sad that smaller Ugg designers are now out of work as a result but can see a clear reason for this is that people are basicly looking for quality, Ugg Australia by Deckers tends to offer that- eg the heels don't flop, they last year on year and they don't stretch out of all proportion. There are many fake uggs or other companies whose ugg boots don't do that. People get scared: over £100 on a pair of boots by most peoples standards is a heck of a lot of money and people want the reassurances that at that price their boots wont fall apart after a month of wear. Ugg Australia by Deckers for the most part do keep that promise. I'm not saying other companies don't, I'm just saying that its often hard to find the same degree of quality (even if by your standards its poor) in other brands of Ugg boots.

I do wish there was more competition, I can't help feeling that the prices are just stupid now. I bought my tall Uggs in 2004/5 for £125. Normal black and lasted a good 6 years before I put them to bed, not because they were too old/dead but because I wanted a different style of boot. Now I see prices above £200 and boots that have holes appear? somethings not right and there needs to be more competition so Ugg Australia are forced to lower prices, up the quality and respect that people will vote with their..uhm, feet!

Emus are what I am hanging out for if its any help- just simply because I fancy something different next year. (Uggs for 5-6 years, LFAs which didn't last then FitFlops this year, which were great but resulted in calf and foot muscle injuries for me.)
