i tried folding them over and they looked a bit odd and were still too big, ive not seen any pictures of them folded over either so not sure they are meant to be

I really feel I have to reply to this thread. I have been a lurker of this site for a while now. Although I am Australian and live in Australia, I lived in the UK for 3 years and having trouble with some companies there I found this site. As an Australian can I just comment on the difference between a genuine ugg boot, a genuine UGG Australia ugg boot and a fake ugg boot. A genuine ugg boot must be made from sheepskin, that is the outside of the skin with the wool attached becomes the interior of the boot, and the interior of the skin, after tanning (I think) becomes the exterior of the boot. There is then a typically rubber sole attached. This is a genuine ugg boot. They are made in Australia, and can be made in New Zealand. These are genuine, not fake.

A genuine UGG Australia ugg boot has the uGg logo on the back of the boot. Personally, seeing the photo's of the new UGG Australia ugg boots that were posted, I believe that by calling them ugg boots, then it is false adevertising, but that's just my opinion. They don't appear to be made of sheepskin, but are rather lined at the sole with wool, with denim and cotton uppers. They also have nothing whatsoever to do with Australia, but that's my own patriotism coming through. Also, these boots should be referred to as GENUINE UGG Australia ugg boots, not ORIGINAL ugg boots. There is nothing original about them as the reason they lost their trademark in Australia was that there was evidence that the term UGG had been used by Australian manufacturers of sheepskin boots as far back as the 1950's (I believe). They are not the original manufacturers of ugg boots, as there are companies in Australia that have been manufacturing the same product for over 100 years, they just weren't sold as ugg's at the start.

Fake ugg boots are made using synthetic materials that have a habit of falling apart with very little use. End of story.

If you have to have what the celebrities are wearing (and paying too much for in my opinion), then go ahead and buy genuine UGG Australia ugg boots. If on the other hand you want genuine sheepskin ugg boots for a more reasonable price, buy ugg boots from an Australian or possibly New Zealand company (don't really know too much about the NZ ugg industry). That's not to say that you will always get genuine ugg boots, or that you can't get genuine ugg boots from an overseas site, but you have a better chance.

Also to the person that has said if a url has ugg in it that isn't Deckers so it must be illegal, that is false. If the site has ugg in the url and ends with .au (Australia code), then it is legal, they just don't sell genuine UGG Australia. That means Snug Australia, Ugg Store, Jumbo Ugg, etc are all legal sites, selling genuine ugg boots manufactured in Australia to Australian standards (the best in the world).

So please don't worry if you have bought ugg boots from an Australian site. Most likely they are genuine ugg boots (again just not UGG Australia ugg boots manufactured by Decker). They are not fake. You can tell by the quality, not the label. Real ugg boots should be waterproof (as sheepskin is waterproof), so there should't be a need to add additional waterproofing. Personally I would prefer to buy my ugg boots from an Australian manufacturer as I know the conditions that the product was manufactured in, rather than Deckers Chinese manufactured products. But if you need to spend the money to wear what someone who's only claim to fame is to date someone who is famous, then go ahead and buy from UGG Australia.

Just as a last note, they are called ugg boots because they are !!!!!!. Personally, I don't know how they ever became a fashion item.

I agree with most of what you say- a very good post, BUT I cannot agree with your part on the Ugg url statement. Unfortunately, the boots sold via websites which have Ugg in the title (including snug ugg for an example) are not always (and in my experience of watching friends and relatives fall for these sites) the same quality of the well known Ugg boots "which celebrities wear".

Infact, one of the main reasons I think most of us will go to buy Ugg boots from the "celebrity" known Ugg Australia store is really to ensure we are getting quality Uggs, not the type that end of keeled over to one side, coming apart at the (glued) seams and generally looking 3 years old in the space of 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, although in the vast majority of cases you are right, Australian made boots are the better quality, it is not always the case, and I think it would be mildly insane to assume this theory as set in stone.

Celtic Uggs, Hasting Uggs, Emu Uggs, Just Sheepskin Uggs for some examples, have all been reported on here as being generally good (non keeling over) quality. I have to admit I have no idea where these are made, but just to add there are some, just like you say, that are just as good quality.

Snug Uggs, Love-my-Uggs and other titles with Ugg in the title of the URL, have infact been reported as poorer quality, or in some unfortunate cases, fraudulent sites (ie they take your money and run...) have been the case with other such sites. I think I would imagine the vast majority of buyers do not want to be paying out the cost of such scams. (unless I am wrong...)

But I can see where your coming from, and thanks for your input, it is just unfortunate that as part and parcel of what type of world we live in, scams, poorly-made items and fakes do live on.
Just because it has au at the end of the url, does not mean they are actually always made in Australia, or even have Australian wool/leather/suede in them.
