A word of warning to anyone buying Uggs or anything else form the US
Just acquired a pair of Uggs for my teenage daughter from Bootbarn
Used them at xmas when buying boots for my missus - managed to get away with paying NO duty and the boots cost £90 all in. Great deal and YES they were genuine Uggs
Today though Ive had to pay £44 duty to the tax man via UPS. This included an £11 handling fee from UPS which they reluctantly told me about. I had to drag this out of them!
In summary
When you buy from the US be prepared to add at least the above amount to any comparable purchase
Bootbarn are terrific and sell genuine products but the duty costs need factoring into any purchase you make.
Total cost of boots £160
You can pick a pair up in Harrogate where I live for £170!!!
PS - I did look at Aussies direct before choosing Bootbarn once again and I noticed the payment page was unsecured. When querying this they said (very unconvincingly) that it was a "Yahoo merchant thing" and their site was safe. BEWARE0 -

A minefield. This thread is covered with all manner of suspicious posts.
Someone should start a new thread summing all this up.0 -

To summarise, dont buy Uggs from a site recommended by multiple newbies.
hi there,
when you refer to " sites recommended by newbies" i sincerely hope i'm not included in this ref...i admit i am a newbie having only wrote on this site a few times but everyone has to start somewhere!
i genuinely am interested in a pair of deckers uggs but have been ripped off once before by australia direct, since then i discovered this site and have read every page with great interest.i think its a fantastic site and most people come across as genuine and helpful.
i stumbled on the ebay wagz site last night and i would love to purchase a genuine pair of uggs cheaply, like i'm sure most people would...but i was def wary of the site and after taking another look today i am even more so, when you enlarge the photo the boots have labels attached to them which even though i'm a "newbie " i did'nt think was the norm for the deckers uggs?
i would never endorse or write on here for personal gain and certainly not about ugg boots cos i'm don't know enough about them to do so. i wrote on here last night just asking for opinions rather than be ripped off again.
i apologise if my "newbie" questions have offended anyone or made them suspicious of my intentions!
i'm a normal boring houseperson with 2 children who was just asking advice on a possible bargain or a possible scam...maybe "newbies" are not too welcome on this site??0 -
