It sounds like the GP needs to see you before deciding whether to issue one. Have you seen a doctor recently?
  • yeah 2 weeks ago and he was ok with issuing me a sick note. Just seems silly to see me only to know the problem is on going and just need to get a sick note.

  • The Doctor would need to speak to you to ascertain whether another sick note is appropriate otherwise just anyone could ring up and ask for one.

I understand you've recently had one but for all they know you could be better by now.

  • Thanks everyone just that the receptionist was abit off with me and they are supposed to be a caring profession. My doctor knows Im ill but could he not give me one if he wanted too even though im ill? It worry's me!

Doctors receptionists are often a bit moody and seem to forget that they're not the GP's! Just make another appointment with the GP and get him to give you a sick note. Receptionist is just there to take phonecalls

Probably because you expected her to just dole out sick notes on the word of someone phoning in....

Your doctor will give you a certificate but it would be remiss of him to do it without seeing you again, if he felt you needed to have been off longer he would have given you a longer note to start with.

They get even more snotty when you remind them of that.

What, do you mean that doctors receptionists are not medically trained?? I am surprised this is the case when listening to mine dole out `advice`
  • Make an appointment to get another sick note or ask for a telephone consultation, they may issue one for you to collect. Some receptionists think they are God!

No he doesn't. He only knows that you were ill 2 weeks ago and he probably felt that having 2 weeks off would be sufficient time for you to recover.

If that's not the case, then of course you need to go back and see him again.
