While on the same point, why do some companies think eBay is a dumping ground for goods that would ruin their reputation off eBay? Slightly damaged or improperly processed goods or seconds... dump it on eBay. Not a great idea. I've actually seen a few companies and their feedback on eBay and thought, "I used to think that was a decent company."
It probably amazes me more. When I ran an auction house I had some contacts with a few big companies and they wouldn't give any returns or surplus stock, they'd rather send it to landfill to "preserve their good name". Now they have outlet stores and Ebay stores and sell any old tat.

I would say like any other sales outlet it is one person selling and another buying. The buyer does their bit by paying and the seller by delivering what has been promised.

I don't see that there is any obligation or gentleman's agreement to leave feedback. Some people choose to do so but it is exactly that - a choice, not an obligation implied or otherwise.

This is exactly the point. All companies seem to bug you for feedback or a review now. Not just on Ebay but buying direct from websites. I have left a bad review before after being sent three separate e-mails asking for feedback.
It seems like you can't wipe your nose nowadays without being asked to fill in an online survey about it;..
