I have the opposite problem – callcredit and Equifax have no trouble verifying me but Experian seem to struggle with my address as it’s a flat. Doesn’t seem to create any problems for any postcode to address converters with any one else – just Experian. Problem is most lenders/banks/credit card companies use Experian.

Yes, I have the exact same problem. Callcredit and Equifax no problem but Experian had two 'accounts' for me, the correct one with the electoral roll information and one showing I was not on the electoral roll and all because my address was recorded differently by the council to how I wrote it as per my tenancy agreement!

So I have a passport, provisional license, rbs bank account (also on experian) and as of today an ISA plus I've been on the electoral roll since 2013 which shows up on my erxperian report. Now I pay for the contract but it's under my dad's name and since they have to do a credit check and can't find me then I'm not going to show up. So ill have to wait until that's up and try go for a new contract. RBS are stumped as to why I'm not visible to anyone. They said I can get a credit card but not until I've got over £10,000 p.a. They also said to contact the council to make sure everything's fine which they have said it is and that I'm registered here at my address. So really there is no reason for me not to have an identity. Anything you guys have that can help me out with getting on the map as this whole ID stuff is so annoying. Any cards I'm guaranteed of getting or ways to get my identity 100% verified at my address???

As someone already posted, a passport and provisional licence are irrelevant to you getting credit. They just prove your ID.

Also how many applications have you made recently involving a credit search? Remember searches impact your credit rating with lenders.

Yes - experian have my address (where there is data) as

    10 Flat 30
    xxx Court
    xx Road
    London XXX XXX

    The correct address is

    Flat 30
    xxx Court
    10 xx Road.
    London XXX XXX

I end up potentially being linked - it seems based on check my file - to the people living in flat 10 which is on the other side of the development.

Its infuriating - as the address they appear to have for me is nonsense! The hoops I have to go through to apply for accounts with experian only users is annoying - just cos they cannot use an address that makes sense (as equifax and callcredit do).

I'm not clear on whether your problem is providing sufficient documentation that financial and other institutions require to do business with you or having a good enough credit history to be accepted for a credit card - or both.

If the first then it comes down to each institution's individual requirements - often two independent approved documents that show your name and address plus something like a passport or driving license that prove you are who you say you are.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

You can't be linked financially to anyone else, unless you have a joint account/mortgage with them, so you won't be financially linked to the people at that address.

The main reason it seems you can't get a credit card is you have limited credit history, the only 2 things that will show up on your credit report is your RBS bank account and being on the electoral role. And as another poster has suggested if you have no credit facility on your bank account they bank may not have informed any credit agency. The other reason you can't get a credit card is limited income, as you've mentioned your bank need you to earn 10k, they basically want people who are pretty much full time workers.

You will eventually build up a credit history with mobile contracts, bills.etc and in the future you'll be more likely to be accepted for credit. But I would be careful when it comes to credit cards, you don't want to find yourself too much in debt. I didn't trust myself with a credit card when I was at uni!

The fact that the money for the phone contract comes out of your account is not relevant, the contract is in your dads name so it is your dad who has your phone account on his credit history. Where the money to pay that contract comes from does not matter, all that matters is the account is up to date and not in arrears.

Savings accounts do not show on your credit history, only accounts where you are being lent money do. Accounts like credit cards, loans, bank account with overdraft, store cards etc.

I used to work for RBS credit cards many years ago.
Apply, if/when it fails appeal. They will ask you to send in 3 months bank statements. As you are an existing customer it should help.

    This can happen on flats.
