car park bump

Well......you originally told us the OP was trying to "get away with not having to pay for the repair of the other car"FormulaDriven wrote: »Because if other party doesn't make a claim, he doesn't lose NCB....
But as posted, he has informed his insurer already, so he faces premium increases as a result of having this on his record.
You choose to ignore this.
And now you say it's all down to not losing his NCB!
1) You don't know if he has any
2) If he has you don't know if it's protected.0 -
Those are fair points.
You've taken the side of the OP and said that he was better than many drivers who would have just driven off - I've no quibble with that.
I guess I'm empathising more with the other driver (because of my own experience) and from his point of view whether the OP is paying personally or through a claim on his insurance, I still insist that there is real likelihood that the other driver will think lack of note means they can't get the OP to pay.
Oh, and the other thing I was wrong about was thinking that my earlier post would be my last attempt to explain this!
But that's fruitless debates on the internet for you... 0 -
Now you just wait for the solicitors letter telling you the 4 people in the other car are claiming for whiplash injuries............
I jest, you have done all that can be expected.0 -
People get shot down for just driving away.
Now it seems people also get shot down for reporting the incident to multiple places.
Some people are never happy.0 -
Sadly there are many out there who would have had no qualms about simply driving off.
Sadly there are too many people out there that would take advantage of a bump, however small. And sadly too many insurers that will just payout.
Is it really any wonder more and more people are now just driving away0 -
I love how my empathising with the other driver and questioning whether it would have been better if the OP had left a note on the car has now been translated to "shooting down" OP for informing multiple places about the incident!0

You have forgotten your mere "empathising" and "questioning" did lead you to accuse the OP of being "underhand" and trying to "get away with it"!0 -
Well, I did try to couch my first post with more speculative language than an accusation.
This is why it's only really the OP who can help clarify: did they genuinely think their approach was courteous to the other driver or did it ever occur to them that they might get away with no third party claim if the other driver doesn't think to ask the staff at McD's? Only then can we know if OP was being underhand or not.
So if I've implied an accusation of being underhand, I withdraw that, and make no judgement unless the OP chooses to answer. Of course, OP is under no obligation to answer random people on the internet, so I'll move on...0 -
To be fair to FormulaDriven, my car has been dinged slightly in car parks several times and not once have I thought of going back into the shop to see if someone reported it, nor has it even crossed my mind to contact the police (surely they have more important things to do). I would agree, a simple note on the windscreen would be far more appropriate (depending on weather conditions naturally).0

I'm also going to come down on FormulaDriven's side here, his very first post seems entirely nail > head to me and it baffles me that he's needed to explain himself a further 5(!) times.
I've had 2 cars damaged in 2 car parks not covered by CCTV in the past and in neither case was a note left on my car, and it wouldn't even cross my mind to go and ask the nearest local business to see if someone reported it to them if no note's been left on the car, let alone calling the police about it.
Maybe that was two honest drivers who felt their obligations were taken care of by informing their insurer/the police but as they didn't inform the person who in my opinion actually matters (ie me, as the victim) they did both "get away with it" in that I had 2 repair bills for my cars, neither of which were paid for by the people who caused the damage, or their insurers.
OP: Did the police give any indication that they'd be contacting the person whose car you hit? I assume you gave them its reg, which means the police would perfectly well be able to do so if they were so inclined.0
