Hi all,

I have 5 months left on my contract with a Samsung s4. It's now plagued with planned obscelence via the insert sim card known fault among other things.

So I plan to switch to apple for some stability, instead of going for an s6 edge. Once the 6s comes out I should get an OK deal on an iPhone 6.

So how do I do it and keep my old number if I choose to end the contract early by paying what's left and staying with ee ?

I was told by Ee, who I want to stay with that if I ended my contract early I wouldn't qualify for an upgrade. This then would push me towards getting a new line to add to the two I already have.

If I go down the new contract route they say I can't keep my number??

Any experience of this or are they correct?

If it's a fault get it sorted under Samung's 2-years' warranty or by the supplier under SoGA.
Or buy a new phone outright and use it with the existing SIM.

You either upgrade with your network or use PAC to port your number to another network.
That said, IMO it's madness to pay 5-months' termination fee.

I think you were told rubbish if you made clear that you were prepared to pay the fee. Hardly a surprise knowing the current state of EE's CS. Most likely you just don't qualify for allegedly better deals for upgrading customers compared to deals for new customers.

If you buy your iPhone 6 at the price drop, ensure it is unlocked and simply use a SIM cutter to make it fit. No need to change any contract or settings, then when past the minimum service date, switch to a SIM only tariff.
  • Thanks for the advice. Needed a sense check but this phone is driving me crazy. I happen to be on a really good tariff.

5 months out yes to the tune of £125 in terms of a cancellation fee.

Tempted to do it via carphone warehouse.

I will check out this Warrenty thing and will bide my time, frustrating as it is. I just know today's tariffs are much more expensive.

  • I like sim only prices but they don't come with simple things like vmail or deezer which was my past experience with orange.
