Greece are now giving the refugees papers, though I'm unsure what papers?? The people looked happy enough so maybe papers meaning they can travel anywhere in the EU? Unlike Hungary who wanted ppl to claim asylum there? And as you mention Germany is going to take 800,000, what if 400,000 decide to come over to the UK? They will of course:eek:be able too, you don't hear this mentioned?

But will they actually be able to? Don't they have to remain where they are for several years? I think the UK may have to close its borders (others countries, too).

These are some of the sentiments starting to be expressed in Germany (of course not reported by the press here):

I do think we should help genuine Syrian refugees, but by providing help in the camps, not by allowing a varied collection of mostly strong young men from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Albania and so on to 'swamp' Europe.

People need more than economic reasons to move else 95 percent of the poorer EU nation citizens from Poland Romania Bulgaria Spain etc would move to the richer EU nations like France and Germany but instead its 5 percent or less

The Germans probably need the immigrants as their population is static and about to start falling plus they have millions of empty apartments. The UK is growing by 500,000 a year anyway so its different

I'm sure the migrants won't want to stay in countries that are being forced to take 'quotas', but categorically do not want them and don't feel able to deal with them, for whatever reason, such as those in eastern and southern Europe. The migrants appear to be selecting the countries they want to stay in.

we host 630,000 immigrant each year plus all the uncounted

with our large surplus of housing I guess an extra 100,000 more would be no problem

Which is your country of origin?
Do the brits pay for their lifestyle there or do the claim benefits to live?
Do they take resources from the indigenous population such as housing/ school/ healthcare?
Do they stay in close knit groups/ cling to their own culture/ not learn the language/ expect others to accomadate and change for them?

I think these are the fears, rightly or wrongly, which haven't been addressed for taking in refugees. Our resources are stretched, from experience the NHS has waiting long waiting lists. In the past couple of weeks an acquaintance of mine finally had an appointment with a cardiologist only to be told that it was too late to operate so he is now just waiting to die. More people in the country means longer waiting lists and potentially people born and worked in britain all their lives having to wait longer. Similarly this can be argued for schools and housing.

I can only assume that you've never been to France or Spain. Both have large British ex-pat communities that steadfastly refuse to assimilate. If you're in the Dordogne it's easy to find an English plumber that only serves the English community.

    Here is a long list:

I thanked you, but I might end up guilty myself, if we end up buying a holiday home in Spain. I think I would end up being half and half when it comes to integrating.

Reading this nonsense you'd think having to live next door to someone who wasn't born in the UK was the worst thing that could ever happen to a person.

No wonder "they" "all" want to come here. Probably coming to escape all the foreigners.

Why aren't we thinking a bit more out of the box about the problem?

Aren't there something like 1.8m unoccupied properties in Spain. Why don't we all pay for some of these properties to be used, via the EU? Why would Spain turn down the money?

*All* the EU can pay. This includes Poland and Romania, countries who have benefitted immensely from the EU in recent years.

Frankly, if I were a refugee and offered a choice of mild climate Spain or Darlington on a cold wet windy November day, I'd choose Spain.

    I'd choose Syria over Darlington.
