I am horrified at how much I'm paying and tried to cancel the policy.I was told that since I have claimed on it I must pay the full yearly amount.
Does anybody have any knowledge of this kind of thing please?

Can't say it's the same for ALL motor policies but MOST I've seen will only provide a refund if you cancel if there hasn't been a claim during that policy year. If you're paying monthly it's usually an annual policy with the payments spread over 12 months so effectively you are required to pay the full 12 months.
Check the policy, if it is a condition it will be in there somewhere.0 -
yup basically as you have claimed you have used the service.the cost of the service is the years premium0

They allow you to pay monthly for what is an annual contract. It is the same with any insurance (well the vast majority) that if you cancel mid term with a claim you will have to pay the full amount
Im presuming the claim was your fault0 -
also surely the policy hasn't increased during the term surely so the price is still the same as what was signed up for originally?0

As you have claimed on the policy, you are now liable to pay the full years premium. the fact you pay monthly is irrelevant. If you had paid the full premium at the beginning of the year rathat than pay monthly you would not have had any of the money you have paid back.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

thanks for replies. The claim was my fault in that I left a window open which allowed a burglar to steal my car keys and damage the locks on the car!!
What a rip off.I will attempt to leave their over priced breakdown insurance and see if I have more luck.0 -
but any new policy this year will be based on you having had a recent claimAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

Personally I would advise you to leave the insurance alone and when it runs out go elsewhere. You won't save money moving now because you have claimed.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

OP....you left a window open & a burglar got in a stole your car keys & caused damage to your car? And now your annoyed with your Insurance Co....why?0

OP, think you are on the losing side here. Any insurance company would have done the same thing. By cancelling now you will end up paying more. You will have had to pay the full premium to leave LTSB, and any new company is going to assess your risk taking into account the claim you have just had.
If the breakdown insurance was too expensive, why did you take it?
Look around this board for First Call National Breakdown, I just paid £42 for a years, full cover.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.
