G24 parking notice charge

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the go-to place. I have read through the NEWBIES thread, and must admit- it's all very confusing!
I received a G24 CONTRACTUAL PARKING CHARGE NOTICE.

I stayed at my local Staples for 110 minutes, however the permitted free parking time is 60 minutes. My father-in-law got one previously and paid it straight away. No questions asked. The charge is for £100 within 28 days, or £60 if paid within 14 days.

The date of the parking was: 16/08/15. The issue date is 26/08/15 but received the first letter today! (05/09).
I have read on several threads not to pay and to just ignore G24 and all their correspondences.

Any help/advice appreciated!

Regards
George

Use the initial appeal template from the NEWBIES FAQ sticky (post #1) - use exactly 'as is' - no amendments or enhancements.

99% certainty it will be rejected, but at least you've engaged with the appeals' process.

Once you get the rejection you can then make a decision as to whether to appeal further to the IAS. Spend some time reading around the forum to help you make up your mind whether to appeal to the IAS, the jury is divided on whether motorists should or not.

  • Thank you very much for your reply.

It does not state anywhere that G24 are a member of the AOS. Does this mean that I need to reply?

Or would I just be able to ignore all documentation?

As you did mention I can then make a decision as to whether appeal again once been rejected (if I do get rejected).

G24 are members of the IPC and use the IAS for their appeals service (the kangaroo court)

G24 are likely to reject any appeal

the IAS are also likely to reject any appeal

IGNORE is an option open to you, but bear in mind they have 6 years to harass you and could try small claims court, that is the risk you are running
  • Thank you Redx.

On the website for G24, there is an emailing service- is this the best place to appeal?

Or should it be done in writing?

    Hi George,

The link above is my case. Very similar circumstances. FWIW I'm not worried about it at all. There's enough to challenge for any court case to be unlikely.
  • Hi Pould,

I have had a brief look at your case. Should I send them a letter the same as yours?

Sorry to sound very uneducated on this but, what does : FWIW stand for?

    For what it's worth.

You need to send a letter that is bespoke to your situation. My letter lays out the key issues for me as the registered keeper.
  • I will send them a letter. What was your outcome?

Did they reply to your initial letter?

I've just had a letter back. I'll post a pdf.

You appeal to G24 as per the instructions on the NtK. If you use an alternative method you run the risk of them not responding until any further appeal window is closed, then it's into the (powerless, so don't worry) debt collector hassle.

I don't know what the G24 instructions say, but the following advice applies.

    1. If by email, bcc a copy to yourself as proof it was sent.
    2. If via a website appeals portal, take a screen shot of your appeal filled out in the dialogue box before sending.
    3. If by post, send it first class with a free certificate of posting from your Post Office counter. This is not 'Recorded/Signed For' mail, neither is it the receipt for your payment for the stamp, it is a specific certificate.

As an aside, for some present peace of mind, G24 are not one of the uber rapacious PPCs in the country. They do tend to 'go away' eventually. Performance may change over time, but who knows, we can only give you current state of play.
