Hi I've just received a cheque from Barclays for £890 ,I used The claims guys .they are now demanding 30% which I think is extortionate. Are they legally allowed to demand this from me .?
I believe that 30% is the top amount they are allowed (25%+VAT). I imagine that's what you agreed with them up front so I guess you ought to pay it. I know they are blood-sucking leeches but if that's the deal you made then I suppose paying is the right thing to do.0 -

Stupidly I've agreed to let Claims Guys check if I've ever had PPI. I fell for there no hassle tagline. I've not heard anything back yet saying whether I've had ppi or not. They state that there is no obligation but I am worried that I'll be "tied in" with them. I know I should have done research and done it myself but they made it seem so easy and straight forward. My question is if they come back as and say I've got ppi can I tell them thank you but no thank you. Their website clearly states that if they find ppi they will send further paperwork to proceed but after reading online about them I am wary.
Thanks in advance for any replies/help0 -
I also used the claim guys. Read the bit about 30% but thought what the hell.
Got a PPI claim accepted, and as soon as I sent the acceptance form back, the phone calls for the £3000 fee started. This got to the stage where it was 3 times a day,
Blocked the number on my mobile and didnt answer landline, when it was them.
I have since paid them the fee, I was going to anyway.
Just a warning to anyone who is thinking about doing it.0 -
I wish I would have read this before using the Claims Guys. Exactly the same thing is happening to me. Do not use the claims guys because they simply pester you for their fees when you haven't received any PPI funds!0

I used the Claims Guys, the only annoyance with them is they don't seem to give you a week or two for payment to arrive and cheques to clear, they just call and call and call as soon as you get the we are paying you your PPI back letter from the bank. Luckily i had a small buffer so as one PPI claim bill came in i could pay it while the cheque from the bank clears.
I did the reclaiming bank charges my self back in 2007, and no way did i want to go though all that messing around again with over 10 accounts on PPI, so i did not mind the 30% fee, as its 30% of something i would never have got anyway is the way i look at it.0 -
I wonder on reflection quackers, if you realise how much work you did (identifying accounts, providing details, complaint reasons etc) and how little they actually did. You basically paid 30% of a refund for someone to write some stuff down and post it off
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
