Hi I've just received a cheque from Barclays for £890 ,I used The claims guys .they are now demanding 30% which I think is extortionate. Are they legally allowed to demand this from me .?

I suggest you read the contract you signed with them. If this is what you agreed to pay them then yes they have every entitlement. If not then they don't.
  • I was approached by the claims so called guys a year ago and they started to try to sell themselves to me, I pointed out I had been in bankruptcy two years earlier after my ex left me in debt, the said (and documented on my letters) I was discharged from bankruptcy and it would not affect my claim, I then got a letter saying I had to supply more info in the bank, and I owed them £39 in charges, I paid and never received a payment, I then got told I had been awarded £1500, and they wanted £400, I pointed out I had received no money and 37% of 0 is 0 and they were already £39 up. They threatened me with all the things they usually do, then I got a letter of some court which I challenged and now have to pay half at £10 per month and they have put a ccj against my name. I advise everyone to steer clear of this company and to hang up if they phone. Even after requesting that they never contact me again they repeatedly call me to say I have a successful claim on a package bank account, I am very very fed up of them and just leave them hanging on the phone now. I just hope people see this warning and steer clear of them as I wish I had
  • As above, you need to make a complaint of misselling of claims management services to you by the Claims Guys.

This can be done by e-mail to enquiries@theclaimsguys.co.uk

They get eight weeks from receipt of the e-mail to respond. If they fail, or the response is unsatisfactory, you can take it to the Legal Ombudsman at no cost to you.
  • I stupidly took a call from them earlier today.

Am I right in thinking there's no danger of anything proceeding any further unless I sign the forms they are sending out in the post?

Yes - but if you are north of the border you have no regulator or ombudsman to protect you.
  • I've annoyed with them on the way they harass people after a claim is successful. I went into this knowing that I'd be owing them 30% but I'm not pleased with the way they behave after a claim has been successful.

On the claim I had I was required to send sign an agreement before funds were to be sent. I told the Claims guys this and I'd pay them as soon as I'd received settlement but they kept calling about payment. The last claim was they would instigate action against me that could impact on my credit rating.

They have reminded me on several occasions that payment is due when a claim is successful but I think its pretty sharp practise and a bit dumb to threaten your customers to be fair.

If you are unhappy about their conduct you should complain as outlined above.
  • I took a call from TCG's a few months ago and completed the initial forms advising which financial companies (about 5) that may (or may not) included Payment Protection policies without me knowing. They have now sent through a form claiming that they have received a response from a lender and want me to complete a Lender Questionnaire and Letter of Authority. However, it is only at this point they mention Debt Arrangement Schemes (Scotland) and the possible implications of this. Having read the responses above i don't think i want to proceed given the uncertainty around repaying frozen interest to the companies concerned. Can they still charge me for the work they have already undertaken?

Check the terms of any contract you've signed.
  • i haven't signed any contract.......only the first Letter of Authority requesting the companies to respond to the request for information from The Claims Guys. Is this a form of contract?
