Item Not received - UPS says it was signed for by my porch

I ordered a satellite receiver off eBay. Seller originally advertised Parcelforce 48 (which I don't mind) after a few days I didn't get it I asked for the tracking number (Incase Parcelforce left it at a post office/depot). Seller responds with "I'll mail it over in the morning" then I get an Interparcel reference.

I never get the item, I open a case. Apparently My porch has signed for the item and its not there.

I've opened a case and the seller is saying "take it up with UPS" then I said "well isn't that your job?" To which I'm told "ask them where they left it"

Now. I've opened a case. The seller uploaded tracking for interparcel then changed it to UPS which shows as delivered signed for by porch.

Help? Is there anything I need to do or do I ride it out for ebay to decide? He has asked me to contact him outside of the resolution centre.

  • Can anyone help please?
  • Since it is signed for and showing a signature not much the seller can do or eBay. You need to take it up with the delivery company.

Might as well wait and see if eBay do anything. Wanting to discuss outside of resolution centre seems off to me, as does the seller changing the tracking information. Make sure these things are conveyed to eBay. If you close the case and UPS refuse to do anything, I don't think you'd have another avenue with eBay.

If eBay don't do anything, then go to UPS on the grounds that the driver must have signed it porch and left it by said porch. It's a signed for service and he shouldn't do this. Most likely, the driver left the item by the porch and someone else found it and stole it. Had the UPS driver obtained a bona-fide signature then the above couldn't happen.

It may be that UPS will only deal with the sender. Find out if this is the case and if so, point this out.
  • I've already said on messages its changed from Parcelforce to Interparcel to UPS.

I've spoke with UPS who said its down to the sender to discuss missing parcels.

Doesn't eBays money back guarantee cover things like this?

Not really although you may get lucky.

Think about it - it's your word against a courier signature.

If the item has been stolen from your porch, then a crime has been committed. Have you reported this?

I am not sure a seller can or should be held responsible for theft from your premises, and I don't think that could or should be covered by Ebay Buyer Protection.

Having said that, as a seller, I'd be doing all I could to pursue this via the courier.

If the seller knows that the delivery company will only discuss with the sender, then I'd hope that eBay will step in. While the delivery company should cover the loss, if a seller refuses to co-operate so as to allow the buyer to be compensated in the proper way, then I think they deserve to have the cost fall on them.

That is rather naive. How would Ebay make a decision?

    There are several scenarios.

    1) The buyer is lying and is trying to get a freebie - not accusing the buyer, but this is a possibitty especially with tracking showing a delivery. Many sellers will have experienced this first hand.
    2) UPS did deliver it to a porch, but the wrong porch at the wrong address. Again, not uncommon.
    3) The seller has uploaded fake tracking. Sadly, this is also not uncommon.

Those are 3 off the top of my head, and not all could and should lead to a buyer refund.

Personally I think it's foolish to raise Buyer Protection cases when tracking shows delivery - it puts the sellers nose out of joint, and there is no incentive to help - the seller is likely to win, if Ebay makes a decision.

There's plenty the seller can do.
If tracking says its left in the porch, then that's not a secure delivery or one signed on delivery.

As far as eBay are concerned they have a signature saying it was delivered.

I agree, a half decent seller with morals will look into it for them, a seller who couldn't care less on the other hand...
