Any retailers had Charge backs??

I work for a Tour Operator overseas ( Cyprus)
We received an online booking for a flight , Debited clients card , booked and paid for the flight and forwarded the e-ticket.

Client has completed the journey then disputed the charge , the airline concerned won't provide us copies of the boarding card ( Data protection act !! )

Bank says that they need to see proof of travel , meanwhile we are down by over £ 600 !

Any ideas please ?

    It may be worth asking the airline to confirm in writing that the passenger travelled, or if they won't do this, referring them to the merchant (or the other way around) directly.

    Which airline is it, out of interest? If not, which country are they based in? I may be able to find the relevant DP laws in the country concerned if I have this.

    I would have thought that the information could be released for the purpose of preventing crime (namely fraud).

    I had another thought, that surely you're the customer (as presumably the client paid your agency, the agency paid the airline) rather than the person the flight was booked for.....

    Definitely try the top part, and perhaps write to the client advising you will be pursuing the matter through the small claims court and police (through Action Fraud) unless they withdraw the claim. It may work.

    Out of interest, which part of the advice did you use? The DPA part or the agency being the customer part? Just want this to help any future people with the same question.

  • Seems to me to be wrong to ask for proof of travel (though that would help, of course). Passengers are free not to travel or to change flights. Surely all that can be required is evidence that a valid booking had been made.

    I fail to see how proof of travel would be necessary. Easyjet do not sell refundable tickets so if you buy an Easyjet ticket and do not travel, you are not entitled to a refund apart from some taxes
    The only way I would see a chargeback is if the service purchased was not provided...as long as the flight went (with or without the passenger) should be enough to prove that what was purchased was provided
    Sounds like fraud

    Hi , I used the agency being the customer part , ie 1st point of contact, our email address etc

    The trouble being with an internet booking, proof that it was a valid booking despite the fact that we have all his contact dets
