I used to do a 180 mile round trip daily commute in my contract work. Because you would be racking up the miles big time I would go for something already done a few miles so you wont suffer the depreciation of its value as much. I went for a Volvo S40 2.0d with 100k miles already with FSH. I sold it at 185k and had no problems at all.

  • It also has 6 speakers, just curious is it 5.1 surround? Then that would be useful for long journeys?

As long as was put in by Ford and has some warranty with it I would be ok with it.
    Not 5.1.

It did mid 40s over 300 miles of largely rural trips, so not that moneysaving. The VAG bluemotion/greenline cars ares the ones to go for if mpg is priority and I'd be looking at something from Skoda.

I'm not totally fixated on MPG as my first priority, more reliability and comfort. As I said this is only a temporary job for probably a month, and I just don't know what my commute will be after this.

Just looking for a good all rounder that'll last a few years. I generally buy at about 3 or 4 years old and drive it until it's worn out
  • I would get your focus serviced fuel filter and engine flushed and stick to the devil you know.
Some of these new dpf diesel can throw some serious wobbler's and trundling down the hard shoulder at 25mph with a dpf issue is not fun.

So this one has apparently had a reconditioned engine put in by Ford. Should that be ringing any alarm bells

I assumed gabbleRatchet is commenting on the fact that a 2012 has needed a complete new engine before it managed 85,000 miles rather than on buying this particular car.

Wouldn't even cross my mind to change a car for a temporary, maybe one month piece of work.

    Yes That' right
  • The issue with the ford 1.6 diesel is its based on a French PSA 1.5 (1560) designed in 1986, it has been turbo charged to the hilt and the service intervals grossly exaggerated.
Carbon deposits build in the dirty oil and solidify blocking oil ways.
    Then it packs up.
Those in the know perform half life oil changes between every service and they can live for 200k

Thanks for your helpful post. If you read what else I have posted you'll see I've explained that I work all over the place. My current car is worn out and needs replacing so I am doing it now.

I am not buying a new car on the basis of a one month job.
