I use a belkin wireless adapter for my pc which is in a different room to the router.
For a while now the connection is "local and internet" for a minute or so then flicks to "local only" so I can't do anything.
I've restarted, reset the adapter, disabled and enabled it, diagnosed and repaired etc. and nothing works.
I'm not a techie so any simple fixes are welcomed.

Mine did that when a neighbours router was interfering with the signal. Have you checked the channel your router is on, and which channels are most in use in your vicinity? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
This is the belkin end of it, to see what you're on at the moment.

You can download things like wifi analyser to find out which channels are busiest - I don't remember what I used, but there's threads about it on here somewhere. Or you can just play with the different channels and see if any are more effective.
Can you connect the pc using an ethernet cable temporarily to do this? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Tried this, no success.
Must be the adapter or pc because iPhone and iPad are connected without problems at all.0 -
you first need to ascertain what is dropping, the internet connection or the connection to the router, that is done by attempting to login to the router 192.168.something when it has dropped and checking the signal strength status at the same time. is it vista.0

Signal strength is full. It's not the connection because the iPhone, iPad and Xbox connections are perfect. Yes, vista.0 -
Are you definitely connecting to your own wireless network?
Are there any driver updates available for the wireless adaptor? (What's the model of the Belkin adaptor?)
If you go into the wireless network settings, is "obtain address automatically" ticked in the TCP/IPv4 tab? (Trying to recall this from memory -- the actual descriptions might be slightly different.)
My router goes a bit nuts on occasion. Sorry to ask, but... have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

Yes.
No, have checked.
Don't know, have turned it off now.
Yes, I've turned everything on and off.0 -
have you checked connectivity and signal strength and status (on the pc) now, or at the time it fails. If signal strength is full all the time, it shouldn't drop, but you have vista, so anything can happen.
have you recently relocated the machine or the router, or changed the router. Is power saving activated at any time before the failure. usb adapter or cardYes, vista.
at a guess, if nothing else has changed recently, that's your problem, it's wireless handling is xxxx. reinstall or upgrade.0 -
