Yes, that's pretty much what has happened. I think it's legal for them to do so.

Company was originally a catalogue company you would have a credit account with, so I think their payment system is all mucked up.

Basically you pay, the amount gets held from your available balance (just like every other shop). But then when the items are dispatched, they withdraw the amount for every singular item. So I have like, 15 transactions on my account for the cost of each individual item. Those 15 transactions built up to £132 which was fine but the held amount remains at £202 and hasn't changed. I only found out when I called telephone banking and he informed me I had a £202 pending transaction. I knew what it was for but was surprised because they'd already deducted part of it.

It's very cheeky, and weird that I have never noticed them doing it before but there you go. I ordered on Tuesday 1st and the money isn't back yet. They deducted a further £30 odd yesterday presumably for two more items that were put in the post today.

Thing that concerns me is, are they going to wait until the last item is delivered to unhold the money? Last item was on back-order and is expected 22nd September so that would really do me over.

I've got £81 in my account so I'm doing OK but only because I transferred £170 odd to pay off my credit card bill which I now can't do! Luckily it was an extra payment, not a minimum.
  • Lego mum Yes I soak my oats in milk, as I find it makes creamier porridge, saves me time in the morning making breakfast as the porridge cooks quicker and as I make my porridge in a pyrex dish in the microwave it is also easier to wash up afterwards. Now anybody who likes proper Scots porridge look away now as I do not want to cause offence, my Grandfather would be spinning in his grave if he could see what I serve as porridge :o .
The porridge I've been making recently is oats, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and some sultanas to sweeten it slightly as well as milk, I then put it in the fridge overnight or leave on the side if the kitchen is cool and in the morning give it a stir and add a bit more milk if it needs it and then bung in the microwave for a couple of minutes stir again and repeat the microwaving and stiring until you have the consistency right and the time to eat it, about once a fortnight I end up reheating my porridge a few hours after it is ready as other things have come up (usually situations created by the children :D).
Sorry I can't help you with the timing as I do it by eye and people like their porridge at different consistencies.
OH doesn't like seeds in porridge so if he is also planning on having porridge for breakfast we have oats, milk, sultanas, with finely chopped crystallized ginger, and chopped dried pear and chopped dried apple, delicious especially on a winters morning.

Thanks Baileysbabe, sounds lovely. I will be giving that a go :)

    Morning all,
Greensalad - My brain aches just from trying to understand that. What an over-complicated piece of banking nonsense. Hope it sorts itself out soon.
Well, it seems to have turned over into Autumn overnight. I can remember going back to school in September years ago & the weather would be so warm that we all sweltered in our new uniforms. It's really chilly here. No heating going on until at least October though.
    Today's bits of money saving:
*New recipe in the slow cooker: Smoky chipotle black bean chilli. Yes, the 2 tins of black beans were more expensive than my usual tins of red kidney beans from Mr A, but this was balanced out by everything else in the recipe apart from chipotle paste & smoked paprika was grown by us (onions, garlic, tomatoes, bay leaf) Also uses 600g tomatoes, which has reduced the mountain a bit (though haven't been down to greenhouse to pick today's ripe ones yet!)
*Did the ironing. Thought iron was having a lala. Iron was actually in the process of expiring. Managed to iron the stuff which most needed it, so indirectly, leaving the less urgent stuff a bit wrinkly meant using less electricity. Will have to buy new iron though. Bah!
*Clean house using minimal products & washable microfibre cloths. Leave hoover where mr f will trip over it when he comes in as I think he will volunteer to do it.
*Decide what clothes to pack for camping trip. Started getting naughty little 'Perhaps I should buy a new jumper' thoughts. Quashed them by fetching out winter clothes bag from under the bed & finding some perfectly adequate warm garments I already own.
*Checked bank account to see if mr f's Onepoll money has landed. Nope! Checked into my own Onepoll account & increased my total by a vast 20p to £35-45. (I did the £1 one yesterday).
*Make list of jobs to do in town tomorrow so I can be efficient & only spend a minimum on parking.
*Remind mr f to check camping box for gas cannisters. If we need a couple of extra ones (will be using our gas lamp more on the darker evenings), it'll be cheaper to get them here. Might try Wilko's as have heard from ex-colleague that their camping section stuff is all reduced at the moment.
OK, that's about it, as have lots of other sort of non-money stuff on my list too, for today. I need to finish the house cleaning next, then I think I deserve some toast.
    Love to all,
    f x
P.S Ziggy - Yes, I watched that 'Eat for less' programme.....or I did my best while mr f kept up the insults re Greg, who 'gets on his nerves'. Shocking weekly food spend for that family....I totted it up & it was over £800 a month? Five of them, but the problem was the lack of planning, food waste & laziness re cooking from scratch. I did like the comment by their little girl - when the boys were debating whether their beans were their usual brand, & she piped up with 'Well I don't care if they are or not' & just dug into them. I thought. 'Now there's a girl after my own heart!' Just eat good food, not be swayed by the labels from big corporations. OK, must go & take up where I left off with the bin-emptying, glamour day for me!

Only the company you bought from would be able to answer that question.

Grrr...Weeks and weeks ago I sold something that was broken on eBay under the "for spares or repairs" heading and ticked the boxes saying that I did not wish to accept returns.

This morning I got some emails saying that the buyer is dissatisfied with the item and that eBay have classified it as "not fit for purpose" and that I must therefore provide a refund or PayPal will take the refund off me anyway.

How can something be "not fit for purpose" if it was sold as "broken". My listing clearly stated that it was broken in huge red letters and that it was therefore idea for someone who wanted to take it apart and use the bits or who wished to fix it.

The buyer, meanwhile accuses me of 'mis-selling'. I advertised a broken gadget as 'broken' and he got a broken gadget! I even put "may not be repairable" on it.

:pI may shortly stop using eBay altogether. :p

Oh Ally - how annoying! Can you not take it up with ebay as clearly sold as broken? Or have they just gone ahead and decided against you anyway?

Ally, That is crazy! I don't use paypal/ebay after having our account hacked years ago and someone buying £3k worth of stuff so don't really know how it works but are you possibly able to appeal?
  • Hi All

Confession time, just spent £10 on lunch, but it was so worth it.
    Now onto MSE stuff.
    Should be an otherwise nsd.
Need to swim after work as never slept last night. Just had a busy brain. A few lengths will sort that out I think.
I need to finish off 2 knitting projects
I need to visit DS after a funeral on sat, back sunday.
Mr T delivering £40 of edibles on sat am. Need to put away before making personal transformation into funeral goddess.
Then off up road for family visit with swim costume to check out DGS progress as a water baby.
    Have a good w/e all.

eBay have decided in the buyer's favour and they advised the buyer to post it back so by the time I heard about it it was already in the post! I'm still looking at options for 'winning' the case though. I'm not sure why it took so long to tell me that there was a problem either....

I could probably do without eBay, but doing without PayPal might be less easy, though I would really like to bin the pair of them.

Good job we haven't spent the money yet.
