    Morning DFW-ers,

    Thanks for the starter again
    Ziggy.

Operation Happiness and Sanity continues. Good wishes to everyone who's having trials and tribulations. I must say I am tired of Freecycle. I like the idea but, as a few of us have said, wayward Freecyclers can cause so much inconvenience and be most inconsiderate. I once had someone come to collect a big lamp I was donating. "Perfect for her sitting room" she said, then I looked at her transport, it was a van emblazened with a secondhand shop's logo! Lying smurf!

Had an interview yesterday for a job I want. Went ok, but won't hear until this time next week if I'm successful. The waiting is a killer.

    Nillionaire Month Three:

    * Checked Finances online.
    Done.

    * Check broadband allowance and do the SIM shuffle*.
    Done.

    * Check mobile broadband allowance. Done.
    .

    * Just one caffeinated drink today. Will finish up fruit flavoured tea granules and drink tap water instead. Won't use much milk. Going to reintriduce caffeine slowly from tomorrow so I can work out how much I can take without getting the jitters.

    * Turn alarm clock off at the wall til tonight. Done.

    * Job-seeking tasks. In progress.

    * Stroll to the shop for some exercise and milk with OH. Will get 25p back on the milk on shopping App and spend £2.50 of Nectar Points. Done. Bought luxury foods. Had to be stern to get the assistant to accept my rucksack as a 'Have you brought your own bag?". I said to him, "In what way is a rucksack not a bag?!"

    * Clean downstairs with Stardrops and washable cloths.

    * Call energy supplier to ask where my refund is. On it's way, apparently. Hmm.

    * Log a complaint against M&S credit cards using Resolver. I only use the card to get points and then pay it off straight away but whenever I make a payment from my bank to the credit card it sends the money straight back from whence it came. It only lets me pay it through the credit card company's website which doesn't suit me. Just called Customer Services who couldn't understand what the problem was. This is getting silly now. Done.

    Thought for the day:

"A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money."
    John Ruskin.

    Have a good day all.

    SIM card shuffle:

*Found a really creative solution to our 15MB per month broadband account problem that had been bugging us for months. We never have enough data each month but this is the only company that can supply us as we can't have a line to our property as we live in Timbuktu so our internet comes through a mobile Wifi Dongle device with a SIM card in it. We are already on the package with the largest amount of data so we can't pay more for more data. Local library is miles away. And if we run the internet through our mobiles we'll be broke. Solution: Take out a second SIM card only contract that'll give us 10MB per month with the same company. Then, 60% of the way through the month, take the 15MB/month SIM card out of the device and insert the 10MB/month SIM card. Thus we now have 25MB per month. (We're still paying less for these two contracts than most people pay for unlimited broadband because I haggled.)

Apparently companies sometimes do this, for example the Sainsbury's pay-at-pump will hold the maximum £99 when you enter your card, then deduct the actual spend at a later date. How bad is that? If they don't return it immediately then you're down on money you never spent!

This is called "pre-authorisation". Sainsbury's will often, but not always, take off the hold at the end of that working day. The banks don't let them cancel it until the day's end. Tesco and Asda usually only put a hold of £1 on but have been known to put a bigger hold on.

They've now taken further money from my account (they've withdrawn £153 in total so far) but the £202 hold STILL remains.

I'm hopeful that the amount will be un-held either soonish, or when the final item is delivered. But the final item might not be here until the 22nd September! So I'm not sure when they are going to release the held transaction.

Depends on the companies terms and conditions. However, they might unhold some of that money at close of business/overnight tonight, that would be the usual thing. It would be unusual for money to be held for more than 14 days.

So does this mean that they have taken x amount of Greensalad's money in payment (fair enough, if the goods have been delivered), but hold the full amount in addition? I didn't know they could do this, but what a nightmare for someone in that position. How on earth can anyone budget in this circumstance?

The only positive is that at least Greensalad has got to the bottom of what is going on, and her budgeting was not incorrect as she thought it might be!

And thanks for the tip on pay at pump. I buy fuel from Sainsburys, but always pay in the kiosk. I will continue to do so, and will definitely complain / go elsewhere if they discontinue this option!

Yes, it means that! :( As the items were paid for in-one-go their terms and conditions might say that they can do this. If the items were paid for separately it would be easier for them to un-hold the payment as each item would be on their system separately. It's legal for them to do that, if it's in the terms and conditions, but not ethical. Poor GreenSalad.

Thanks Ally. Puts me off shopping even more! No wonder people get into difficulties

BTW, thanks for the tip on the £1 Onepoll survey (I think it was Jojo who first mentioned it). I have just done it and it still seems to be open :)

    - Bathe cats (fun, fun, fun!!)
    - Wash bedding, sofa cushions etc (flea problem!!)
    - Check FPL
    - Pick up prescription from docs and make appointment
    - Buy some new make-up (waited until I've almost run out, hoping there's an offer on at Boots)
    - Enter some survey's
    - Breakfast from cupboards DONE
    - Dinner from cupboards/freeezer
    - Book in for Yoga on Tuesday
    - General house tidy
    - Bump ad's on FB
    - Add more ad's on FB/Gumtree
    - Make a start of Christmas List
    - Make a start on bookfolding for Christmas presents

I think that's about it!! Didn't bring my work to lunch today as not got much in at the moment so will probably do some shopping tomorrow as I've got the weekend off (woo-hoo!!)

Welcome. For ages I went back to using cash, that really simplified matters!

I don't think the OnePoll hint was me though, I haven't done OnePoll in ages. Might have been Foxgloves? She's a OnePoll Queen.

Says something when a banker / former banker does that!

Not sure whether it was Jojo or Foxgloves? Thanks, either way :D
