I phoned my employer and they said they had a note from hmrc to change tax code. They think maybe my employer hadn't sent them the p45 but by the second week they knew all my tax figures so not sure this is the case. Waiting for a call back from old job tomorrow.
Help appreciated!0 -

I am sure that your gross pay and tax paid or refunded for each week must be on the payslips. This is needed to check these figures.0 -
Have checked the P45 the figures are spot on if it was issued during week 19 which was August 10 to August 16. Does week 19 appear on it?
When did you give your P45 to your new employer?0 -

Yes it does have week 19 on it0

Will give the figures a proper check but looking like your current employer updated your tax code and at the same time removed the previous pay and tax figures. I can think of no reason why this should have been done other than a mistake.0

It looks like you went from old job to new job just about strait away as these wages appear to be for weeks 20 to 23 which brings us about up to date.
Week 1 This would appear to have been taxed on emergency tax code though seems a few pence out but nothing significant.
Week 2 Your P45 has been applied here so tax code changed to 1054L and tax is correct for that (though again a little out but not a lot)
Week 3 This is where it gets weird. As I suggested earlier for some reason your employer has removed the P45 figures and applied the new code (I assume this is the HMRC code they are referring to) of 1046L on a cumulative basis. This with the removal of the P45 figures has meant that you show as having earned only £1950 and have a tax allowance of about £4429 so the tax paid in your current employment £176.60 has been repaid to you.
Week 4 As the P45 figures still missing it now appears you have earnings of £2470 and a tax allowance of about £4630 so no tax was taken.
I cannot imagine that HMRC would ask for the P45 figures to be removed it must be an error on your employer's part.
Only your current employer can tell you why they removed the P45 figures when they applied the 1046L tax code on a cumulative basis which only gives the correct tax figure if the P45 figures are in the calculation.
As far as these figures are concerned you should have paid tax on weeks 3 and 4 and no tax rebate was due.
Do you know if your wages are done on a computer or manually?0
